The Aftermath

I was diagnosed with chiari almost 2 years ago. I have had the decompressive surgery and still in Physical therapy. My issues have gotten a little better yet my muscles arent healing properly. I have constant muscle spasms while bending or carrying even reaching .They want me to get a breast reduction. But before I agree to any more surgery Is there any type of low impact work outs that wont cause headaches or light headedness. Does weight loss help or hender the situation?

Hiya. I'm nearly 2 years post op and after around 6 months I started to feel some benefit. Although the past 3 months the headaches have started to come more often. When you said muscle spasms are they at the back of your head? I have these when my scalp gets wet ie when I sweat or wash my hair without drying. My surgeon doesn't think it's anything to do with the decompression, but I didn't suffer from these before. To be honest my surgeon seems to know very little about chiari I'd like to see a specialist but it's knowing where to look. I think loosing weight can only help. It's not easy tho when you can'tdo much in terms of strenuous exercise is it.

I hope you get your answers

    Hi There,

I had seurgery 7 months ago, what happen is I started getting better the 3rd month of the surgery - but then I started to do gentle walking exercises, now I sufffern from back pain, I had MRI/Scan etc but the result of my SCAN was I am better than average healthy patient - my ortho/rheumatic sepecialist discharged me, I will go back to my Neurosurgeron in March - he did mention that it could be cranial muscle ache resulting from the decompression, it can take a while to heal, in the mean time - I was encouraged to do more routine streching, yoga, pilate exercise with a walk (20 mnts) each day plus yes also loosing weight - but they refer me to this well being - where I can join any slimmng class for free..(LOL)..take that offer for breast..I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THAT>>>>>...well you have the right to have second opinion..ask your gp to refer it to QE Hospital...according to report..they have the best NEURO in Europe. And do you know that DR Sarah Jarvis is one of the GP here..you may also contacting her on this site...just ask her opinion ..she what does she think..she is brilliant GP specialist in diabetes (she wrote Diabetes for Dummies) but she also has interest in ashtma/COPD and other women issue...
