I use a mouth splint (maxillary surgeon) but every now and then it flares up. I have a flare up now its making me insane. Effects my ear and tinnitus pulsing and muscle tight and ear pain, i had chin tingle for a couole of days at first. When i change the mouth splint yearly some are great and some  cause issues for a bit. I cant stand it, its deoressing and uncomfortable. I just started using arnica gel and i rub it over the muscle by the jaw.i bought some magnesium glycinate and am awaiting it to come and ill use that too..it works a bit which is good. I just keeo praying to awake and be all good again. Im on day four of the flare up. The specialist said flare uo usually can go uo to  ten days. 😱 Doctors arent as bright as i wish hey were  and all these medical breakthrough i read about seem to be words and garbage because no one i seem to see know about them. Very frustrating.   After a while it all gets very time comsuming, expensive and frustrating. But i hold the reality that the flare should calm down any day now.  Noone in my family wants to hear about it so i go on here. Thise anti stress pills arent worth it they have way too many side effects , dont work, and issues and i have an optic nerve issue so i coukdnt even use them anyway. The soft mouth splint, nutritional supplements and time take care of it. It always has worked. Its just these flare ups and my mind getting scared it wont heal, but it has in the past  so i know it does. Keep very busy and eat soft foods.

Hi Lisa, thank you for sharing your story your journey has been challenging.  Interesting to read change mouth splint annually wasnt sure if this was reviewed.  Might have to get some arnica gel to try for jaw relief.  I am on day 6 of my flare up although subsided a little the pain wears you down and understand how you feel.

Having been diagnoised with Trigeminal Neuralgia (currently in remission) 5 years ago I understand pain but coping with side effects medication messes with your wellbeing and life.

I have option going back on anti depresent low dosage but my experiences of past I dont want to take any drugs that mess with your head thank you.

Sometimes those close to you dont want to hear they cant see the pain and have no patience this I have foubnd from various support groups.  Stay focused and wishing you pain free episodes,

The flare ups do calm down I guess but when in pain sad

They do keep saying it will heal in time.

The constant headaches, sensitive teeth and shooting pains when you drink anything! drag you down and difficult when have to work too,

I have undertaken all my phycio advised, cut out caffeine, drink herbal teas, face massage, pilates, relax time before bed, meditation to relax before sleeping which worked for 5 months then flare up.

Its good to talk and share.

      Thank you

I went back to a maxillary surgeon as my original one retired. She readjusted the soft mouth splint..thinned it out in certain places for a better fit and within two days most of the pain is gone. The arnica is womderful and helped a lot. I used the gel rub on. Im awaiting now for the tinnitus to calm all the way down at this point too. Whilst i was awaiting too see the doctor the receptionist was actually telling me she goes through the same stuff and its common to tmj so very important for the soft mouth splints to feel comfortable and fit well and maintain their shape.flare ups happen. Ooh did they stink.
