Bad pain that worsens when I sit. What's wrong?

So I've been experiencing fairly bad pain in the rear/butt area that tends to radiate down my hamstrings as well. I can't sit for very long, especially in certain chairs. Mainly driving or riding in a car brings on the most pain. Within ten minutes of sitting in the car the pain gets uncomfortable enough that I want to shift position as much as possible or just get out of the car. The type of pain I'm having started months ago when I was on a 2-3 week long road trip and would be in the car for up to 8 hours almost every day. But only recently has the pain worsened quite a bit. I'm only 18 years old and wish it would go away, lol. Any advice helps and I should probably see a doctor at some point too.

You don't say if your male or female and that only matters of tiny bit. I think what you have is piriformis muscle syndrome. The piriformis muscle is in the butt and it's common in men who keeps their wallet in their back pocket and sit for long periods of time on the wallet. However it can happen to people who don't keep their wallet in their back pocket. It can happen to someone who sits for a long period of time or simply pulls the muscle. There are stretches you can do that you should be able to find them online or go to see a physical therapist who can give you some stretches to help work that knot out. Another treatment option would be a trigger point injection in the area that hurts.

Hi thanks for the reply! I'm female btw. I went to the doctor and she gave me some YouTube videos with special stretches to possibly help the condition. Fingers crossed that the stretches help a little. She also recommended I see a chiropractor or physical therapist.
