can i stop before my course is finished.

i suffer from heartburn. i went to to the doctors and told him that i suffer from it ut no other symptoms and he felt my stomach which wasnt tender so he said it was unlikely i have an ulcer. then without anything more he presecribed me a months 30mg dose of lansoprazole. which researching now isnt that dose for the extreme end of things?

anyway ive managed to complete half the course but since starting ive been feeling nauseas and having abdominal pains. the abdominal ains have been particularly bad the last couple of days especially which i think maybe be because ive had a virus so havent been eating properly.

theres no way of me being able to get an appointment with my doctor to discuss it till late next week at the earliest so is there any problem with me just stopping taking the tablets? whats the worst effect that could cause? the heartburn coming back? because i think id prefer that than these pains.

    That dose isnt excessive, if the side effects are so bad you have little choice but to stop taking it :? The worst that can happen is the heartburn will come back sad The drug should remain in your system atleast a day or so or more after you give it up but hopefully youve taken enough to reset them (the acid producing cells) back to a normal quantity when they start working again (for a while atleast) smile

    Oh I forgot to say, you should still go and see your GP as soon as you can and explain the problem :wink:

    cheers thankyou! ive got a viral infection at the moment so im feeling completely rubbish anyway so the pains havent been helping! i'll stop and see how i get on. thankyou again smile

    :? Hi again it seems very strange that when we all seem to have the same side affects we are also told we have a virus i really think it is just a very bad reaction to the tablets and we are being ponned off by saying we have a virus when i phoned my doctor to day i was told this but i didnt have this sickness untill i started lansoprazole nor did i have severe bowel movement or cramps.

    Lansoprazole reduces the amount of acid in your stomach, the bugs and bacteria that are usually killed by this acid survive and they cause stomach / intestinal / colon upsets as they thrive or pass through smile
