Hi I am Jenn,

I suffer from IBS and I am used to all the aches and pains that go with it, however, a few weeks ago I strained my back moving and it has not been the same.  My lower back is spasming, aching and very stiff.  My upper back feel sore and achey and painful when moving.  I sas wondering if anyone know if back pain can radiate to your hips/waste/ or rib cage.  Because it all started at the same time.  Feels like my back is pulling on my torso....please someone help me out...getting very panicky..

I already have a back injury dating back years.  When I got IBS in March, my stomach pain radiated up both sides of my back, into my hips and ribs. This is very common with Irritable Bowel.

The doctors initially thought I had a urinary/kidney infection despite testing negative. After that, everyone else I saw was baffled and some said they hadn't got a clue what was wrong and that my symptoms were confusing.  Eventually, one out of eight doctors diagnosed IBS after three and a half months of pain, panic, anxiety, terror and despair.

I can't believe it...I thought I was the only one.  I'm sorry for your pain also.  I just can't tell if the two are separate or all rolled into one..But sometimes lately after a BM (sorry to be gross) I get this bloated feeling that goes up to my ribs, and it feels like the gas is pushing out my ribs and my abdomen feels crampy and achy.  Its just terrible and no doctor has ever helped with any type of med.  What do you take for your pain? how do you handle it?

I take Buscopan and or Ibruprofen which work well. However, since having four months in Italy, the pain is hardly noticeable.  It is only anxiety that brings it back.

Hi, have you tried L- Glutamine? It's an amino acid, that comes in a powder form. It repairs stomach tissue and lining, muscle tissue, and intestinal lining. I kinda had that same pain awhile ago, and I tried the L-Glutamine, & it went away. I did it about three times a day for a couple days. I also did a session of Quantum Biofeedback, and that helped greatly.

      Good luck

No I haven't tried L Glutamine.  My pain is usually very mild and I rarely need medication.  Buscopan works very well for me with no side effects. I'm a little wary of trying different things because my stomach tends to get upset easily with medications.  The Glutamine is an interesting idea though.

Hi Jennifer, I think the first thing you must do is see your G. P. If you can't get any results from him ask for a second opinion. Pain is debilitating I feel for you. I am off to see my back specialist tomorrow morning and my hip specialist in the afternoon. Good luck xx
