Good Day ,

Ive been dealing with symptoms for 4 years now that no doctor can specifically diagnose. Ive seen 2 neurologists , 3 physiotherapists , , chiro, accupunture, headache clinic in johannesburg, countless GP's, Eye Specialist and been on pain medication for the last 4 years. I have baffling symptoms such as intense headaches, pins and needles, Sharp eye pain , lower back pain, extreme neck stiffness and crackling, muscle pain and spasms and extreme earache, heart palpatations , sharp chest pains and burning sensations in my head and neck. They constantly changing and alternating but it never goes away. The only medication that has come close to helping has been cortisone and celestine. My biggest problem is that i still dont know what the cause is and its effecting ny everyday life. Its depressing me and i cannot focus on my normal life. I am in constant pain and i am only 21 years old.

What type of specialist will be able to help me or to diagnose this.

You do not say what tests or investigations have been carried out....

      Hi Lilian,

This is the hard part, ive had MRI's of my head twice as the first Neuro didnt release my results to the second neuro i saw a year later, ive had a lumberpunture done , I had a funny black spot in my eye where i rushed to the optometrist who then sent me for an emergency check up at the eye specilist the next day,but by that time my pressure had returned to normal and the eye specialist did not pick up anything. I went to see a specialist clinic that deals with headache cases and they wanted to give me an operation that i could not afford and that normal practitioners did not approve of. There i was given a letter to see a cardiologist as that day a strange rythm or "murmer" was picked up which i never followed through. I have been told i have Chiari 1 byt very slight where no surgery or anything can be carried out but not much info was given to me. The thing is the symtoms are constantly changing and it makes it hard for me as well as any specialists that i see to priperly diagnose.

Its getting to a point where i cannot deal with it in my day to day life and no medication has assisted me enough to be able to have it under control notlr do i have the funds to keep seeing specialists. I am funding everything by myself and i have run out of options.

      Hi MercedesAlicia

I see you are from J'burg South Africa...i'm not sure of the Medical situation there.....however, you did not mention in your reply to me whether or not you've had blood tests...you definitely need an ESR blood test to test for inflammation in your body...this is an ERYTHROCITE SEDIMENTATION RATE blood test..along with a C-Reactive Protein test and Anti Neucleic Antibody test these three tests have to be done together to diagnose inflammation......also your symptoms sound similar to Ankolysing Spondylitis which causes all the symptoms you mention...and it can be a condition that young people get....a gene tests for this is available...the gene being HLA-B27...although not everyone who has this gene will get AS.....

I suggest you ask you healthcare provider to carry out these blood tests.......best wishes...

Rather than look for one problem for all your symptoms you might want to break it down and consider each symptoms separately. Fot example TMJ would explain the neck pain the ears pain and the headaches. Do you grind your teeth at night or even during the day? Stress can cause this and if you have pain in other parts of your body you probably are in a lot of stress. You might want to try seeing a TMJ specialist who can either confirm or rule out TMJ. And if you do have TMJ he can treat it and that would take care of three of your symptoms.

I just read your comment about having to pay for all these tests out of pocket. Which leads me to believe that you're possibly in the US. Have you tried applying for Medicaid? That might help you pay for all of these medical needs. If you're not in the US and apparently in a country that doesn't pay for healthcare then I'm sorry that I can't help you.
