My mother died from this aged 73. Was tolf by gp its not genetic, a few years later her sister died from the same disease aged 74. 2 years ago her younger sister was diagnosed with it and this week her other sister has been diagnosed with it. 4 sisters all with the same non genetic disease. What chances are there that me and my brother's and sister and cousins will also have this and can we be screened for it. Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks.

Hello Mrtyjon
My personal opinion is that it is more than likely genetic however that's not to say you or any other family member will succumb to it. Probably you will need to seek out the professional help of a Geneticist to clarify your concerns.
I have Familial Pulmonary Fibrosis which in my case is definetly inherited.
Sorry I can't help further.

Hi Mrtyjon:
I'm not at all familiar with this disease, in fact i'd never heard of it. I support the response of Negrin as a good step to take. You might also do some research on the internet to see what additional information you can uncover. I have found the internet very informative. But it is not a substitute for good medical advice and for that I agree with Negrin. Good luck to you in your search and i'm hopeful you will find some positive information.
