Diarrhoea

After an initial period of 4 weeks of 15mg Lansoprazole, my GP increased the dose to a treatment dose 30mg as my symptoms were not improving as well as they should. It was suggested that this last for about 4 or 8 weeks max. After 4 weeks on the new dosage I started to feel bloated and off colour. After 5 weeks I started with diarrhoea which has got considerably worse each day until I am now off work.

Has anyone else got this? I assumed it would settle down after a while but it seems to get worse and worse.

I'm on 15mg of lansoprazole and suffering diarohea but no one has suggested it could be this tablet causing it but have taken me off leflunimide which I'd been on since October with no problems occuring. Came across this site and now feel it is the lans and have taken myself off particularly as I was only put on them because I take diclofenic,

I was taking 20mg Lansoprazole and after about 4 weeks I started experiencing diarrhoea but as I was also taking Amitriptyline at the time, blamed this. However, on next visiting my GP he said immediately it would be the Lansoprazole and changed it to Omeprazole 20mg but after 2 weeks symptoms occurred during the night again so I now take one 20mg morning and evening. However, this also causes problems and after two closely spaced eye tests, a new pair of specs and the purchase of a halogen standard lamp all to aid with sight problems; what do I find, it is the tablets!!!

Don't know where I go from here as I cannot do without the medication but must mention it to GP on my next visit. Eye problems include, floaters, spots of blurring, inability to focus - anyone else experiencing this?

I think I had runny poop when I first went on Lansoprazole, but it settled down, especially when I started taking Acidophilus (not to help with the tummy acid, but to boost my good bacteria, which Lansoprazole kills off.) I've now been on Lansoprazole for years and only really experience a bloated tummy as a side effect. I think if runny poop doesn't settle down after a few months, try changing to a different tablet and if that doesn't work, get yourself some Acidophilus. It's made my poop so much better!

I was prescribed 30 mg daily and told the most likely side effect was diarrhoea. After taking it without any problems for 10 days I thought that's ok. During the following night the diarrhoea started very violently. I did not take the tablet as normal in the morning and the diarrhoea stopped after 24 hours. Is it likely that lansoprazole was the cause after 10 days without effects? The doctor was only trying it as a possible cure for a persistant cough (he thought the cough may be due to excess acid) As it has made no difference to the cough I am rather dubious about restarting the lansoprazole. Any suggestions?
