Hi I am a very anxious person and I am wondering if I have pv because my doctor said I have polcythemia, she said to take another cbc after a week or 2 , on April 26 2018 I took a cbc and my results were 6.06 for rbc, 17.9 hemoglobin, hct 49.6. The doctors told me it was probably dehydration then on May 15 2018 at 11 am i took another cbc my hemoglobin was at 17.2 , rbc 6.07 and hct at 51.4. So my gp said I should be fine and that I should take one more cbc in a few weeks and if it doesn't normalize she will refer to a blood specialist . What are my chances of pv also could this be effected by stress I have been always stressed to the max for the past 6 months to a point it effected my digestive system. Also I have lightheaded feeling randomly but my doctor is sure it anxiety

Hi Umer your hematocrit is quite high. For pv patients, the standard # is 45 for males, 42 for a woman. There could be other reasons other than pv for your high hematocrit. You need an oncologist to run tests to see if your are Jak2 positive or have the CalR gene. It doesn't come from stress. It comes from a mutated gene. Stress certainly doesn't help any disease. I think you need a new dr. Try and stay calm. Easier said than done, I know, I'm an anxious person myself. I am on anti-anxiety meds. Maybe you should ask for something to calm you down until you get this straightened out. Good luck

Your blood readings can rise or fall for a number of reasons and may represent something other than PV. This is a rare and serious disorder that needs careful analysis and diagnosis. It would need the attention of a Haematologist to confirm that you have PV and thereafter any treatment recommended. As others have already advised on this forum, time to calm down, be a little patient and don't let your memory run amok as this will only exaggerate your situation for you. Your doctors diagnosis which of course might be accurate, will need the professional clarification of the Haematologist. and that requires extra tests.

Hello umer. With your high blood count, you shd be referred to a Hematologist because they are the experts in this disease. They can properly diagnose and prescribe treatment that works. I gave PV. was diagnosed over seven yrs ago, and living a normal life. it's not so bad when treated. Wishing you good results.
