Does anybody else suffer with this and IBS

Hi,

I have been taking lansoprazole for a while on and off. I have upper GI problems, reflux and stomach pain [like a brick in my stomach]. The lansoprazole are ace at stopping the acid, when I take them. But, I absolutly hate the side effects. It's like a lottery I get different side effects at different times. The headaches are always there though.

I have been having bowel problems for a while now. Bloating, cramps, alternating diarrhea and constipation, pain from the stomach area to the belly button, like a tightness. This is not when I am taking the lansoprazole and not a side effect, it is all the time. The doctor said it could be IBS but did not offer any support.

Does anybody else have IBS type symptoms along with the upper GI symptoms and have you found way to ease it?

It is like a living tourture on a daily basis.

You need to get a new doctor.

Ive been taking Lansoprazole and started getting bad symptoms of IBS.

Still being investigated at mo. Hospital last Thursday - camera up the bottom, now been referred to stomach and diarreha specialest.

But, I have run out of Lansoprazole and now not taken for 2 weeks, my symptons have near to gone?? Seeing Doc on Monday and see if it is Lansoprazole causing this.

Note 2 things please - 1 - I now know of three friends with IBS symptoms, one is more serious, all though are having full tests with their docs. IBS (if) can be controlled but need to be diagnosed first - 2 - Get a new doctor.

    hiya

I am a long time sufferer of IBS and have recently been prescribed 60mg lansoprazole daily for gastritis/NSAID induced ulcer. I have noticed in the second week of taking them that my IBS has kicked in big time and I've got constant trapped wind. As I am very strict with my diet due to the IBS, I can only assume it's the medication. Hope you are feeling better soon. jo

I'm glad I spotted this site as after 3 or 4 months on Lansoprazole for Acid reflux I started to get abdominal discomfort, felt like my belt was too tight. I have stopped Lansoprazole and GP has referred me to specialist re Abdominal pain.

Does anyone have experience of symptoms disappearing and how long after stopping the medication? I was hoping the symptoms would ease by now but its over 3 weeks and not much change.

    Hi,

I started having stomach problems 7/8 years ago and was diagnosed with a hiatus hernia and ulcerative collitus. I have been told that the lansoprazole upsets the bowels and don't think I have all the symptoms I am supposed to have with collitus. Could it just be the tablets (15mg) that is upsetting my stomach?

I suffer with the runs and stomach spasms for 6 years now and I took buscopan when needed and Imodium for when I went out. Buscopan doesn't even touch the sides anymore. Just before I fell pregnant I was given lansoprazole 30mg to take before each meal to help with the spasms. After reading this they seem to be creating spasms for you guys. I have 15 weeks to go and couldn't wait to take them after 25 weeks without medication it has been trying. They gave me gaviscon!

I don't know what to do now :-(

Anyone out there that this med does help with spasms?

In my experience the best medicines by far for a terrible tum are Dicycloverine plus Mebeverine,, Dicycloverine 20 mg is bliss (when it works) smile
