Extrinsic allergic alveolitis

I have just received a diagnosis of EAA after a VATs lung biopsy. It all began with a cough which I had for a few years and then I began getting more and more breathless. After checking for a fungal infection of the lung and then sarcoidosis the biopsy seems to a definite diagnosis of EAA. What is more of a mystery is what I am allergic too. I have no pets and do not work in any of the jobs highlighted on various websites. I am wondering whether it may be the feather duvet that I use but this is only a guess. I am due to see the respiratory doctor in a few weeks and the information posted above has given me the basis for a number of questions to ask.

I have also recenty been diagnosed with EAA. there are various causes and mine is as a result of Pigeons (commonly known as Bird fanciers lung).

Usually if the EAA is due to birds either the person keeps birds or is involved with them in some way.

I do neither but we have a semi derelict building to the rear of my office where pigeons roost. It is thought that this is the cause but it is very difficult to find out how to deal with the problem. I am self employed so have had to return to work. We have sealed all windows on to the rear and had the entire building sanitised but we still do not know whether we have done enough.

My symptons have improved in that the awful coughing fromearly evening onwards is abating but I am still breathless. How long will it be before this improves and more importantly is there a way to measure whether there are still allergens getting into the building where I work?

I have been suffering from EAA for over three years - it is probably, but not definitely related to pigeons. Prior to this, I have been incredibly fit all my life, although I have been a smoker of both cigarettes and cannabis for many yaers during my teens and beyond. My problem started when my family and I moved into an old property which has hundreds of pigeons nesting around it. After we had been there for a few weeks, I developed a severe virus like condition following by extremely bad breathlessness and exhaustion. My condition was misdiagnosed by my GP as asthma and by the time I had paid to see a lung specialist privately, I was in a pretty bad state - needing to sleep almost all day. I was prescribed Predisilinone which I have been taking for 3 years. No other members of my family have suffered any of my symptoms. To cut a long story short, we eventually managed to sell the house and now, after two months of moving, I am on a very low dose of the steroids, but I am still not fully back to health. Can anyone tell me how long it may take before I am fully recovered from a condition like this?

      Hi,

I know this is an old discussion, but I was wondering whether you lived in the U.K. My friends dad has been diagnosed with EEA Pulmonary Fibrosis and is looking to talk to others who suffer with the same illness as himself. If this is something you wouldn't mind please let me know.

      Thank you,

      Kim
