Eye Problems

Was diagnosed with this disease in October 2005. It has been a very hard slog, I have had every symptom going except kidney problems (touch wood!!!). I am now supposedly in remission and feel fine except for a recurrent problem with my eye. It is like a blocked tear duct and an opening under my eye fills up with a yellow pus which then has to be drained out. This has been going on for seven months and I am no further on. Waiting to see an eye specialist in Manchester but wondered if anyone else has experienced similar eye problems. My specialist doesn't seem to think it is the Wegner's itself but a complication I've been left with as a result.

PS Just found this site, beginning to think I was the only person with this illness. Find my self quite an oddity whenever I see a new doctor (and there have been many)

hi there, many people with Wg, who have sinus involvement end up with blocked tear ducts. i did, its awful i know. I ended up having two surgeries to unblock it. The second one worked and has given me few problems now for about 5 years. They put a tiny tube in the tear duct for a few weeks and then remove it, it should hopefully then not re block. An Ophthalmologist did it for me in Australia, so i am sure there are plenty of doctors in the UK who can perform this minor surgery..

Just found this site by accident today as I haven't been diagnosed with wg. I have exactly the same problem with my eye and had tear duct surgery three years ago. Unfortunately I'm still having the same problem and am recovering from dacrocystitis in the second eye. Am thinking of seeking a second opinion - was diagnosed with sarcoidosis but I haven't seen a specialist for months. I don't think they know what to do with me! Hope you have better luck

Thank you both for your response to my posting. I have seen the eye specialist and had the surgery about three weeks ago and, touch wood, it seems to have been successful. The other eye will need doing eventually but that one just runs all the time.

One thing I find about Wegeners is that doctors are very interested in it and once pointed in the right direction things do seem to happen quite fast.

My husband has sarcoidosis - what a pair we are, we even share the same chest consultant!!! He has had it for about ten years and is ok as long as he takes the steroids - had one relapse a few years ago when doctor stopped them.
