Don't you just love doctors. For years it was because I smoked and now I get it's because of my weight. I swear you could come in complaining of a broken finger and they would say it's because you need to lose weight. LOL
Anyway, I would be making an appointment with a urologist. Some times a GP doesn't see the forest for the trees. And If he/she doesn't find anything you should also see a nuerologist because this could all be radicular pain coming from your lower back, believe it or not.

The symptoms you are having commonly are associated with back injuries that have slipped disc. Not all MRI machines are the same. Some have higher levels of functioning. So this would result in the MRI pictures being different. The older machines dont pick up details in the pictures. Also, body tissue can block the view of other internal body parts. The skill level of the technician also makes a difference. I have had some things not show up in an MRI at one place but not at another. The technician explained the difference in the capabilities of the MRI machine. Dont allow the lack of a clear diagnosis push you into depression. Search for the place that has the newest MRI machine. And put time into gaining knowledge of how to lose the weight so when you do find a place with the ability to take good MRI pictures, it will be a clear picture of the problem. Also research the doctor's skill level. Not all doctors are with the same abilities.

I just want to add one more thing to what treasure nurse said. Don't use an open MRI. they do not pick up as much as closed MRI do. I learned this the hard way.

It seems like a nerve issue if it's shooting down your leg.
