Hi margo, I always thought the tablets jakafi, and hydroxycarbamide are for lowering your platelet count and not your white blood cells, I might be wrong, thanks Paul.

    Hello Margo,

I have been on Jakavi for over 3 years now and can say it took at least 18 months to really react on me, following Hydroxycarbamide treatment over many years.  All my blood readings now read normal and have stabilised over the past 2 years.  It is not meant to treat the white cell count but this is obviously affected during the treatment for the red cells.   My white cell count was 8.9 just last week and Neutrophils 7.1.  Are you sure that you have been recorded the right count for WBC.  Suggest you contact your Haematologist asap and ask for a professional

opinion as this involves your immune system.  I suspect your count might be 17.000 which some clinics can use, but best get a professional check.  If your reading really was as high as you say I think you could feel somewhat unwell.  Let us know how you get on so just make that call.   Best wishes.

    Peter.

According to my little booklet “The Myeloproliferative Disorders, WBC is measured as a number times 10 to the power 9 per litre and should be in the range 2.8 to 13 according to age and ethnic origin. What unit is yours being measured in?

Hi margo82957. Maybe you shd ask the hematologist why he thinks the white cells are still so high. White cells are there to fight something that is happening in the body. Does he know what that something is? Just a suggestion. Best wishes, hope you can get some better understanding to this problem. harrishill
