Have other older patients with PV had flu and shingles vaccinations.?

I've had a letter from my local medical centre here in UK inviting me to have these vaccines. I've never had them before and just wonder if others have and if they have been ok. Will probably discuss it with my haemotologist next week but I interested in others experience. Thank you.

Hello Clicker,
I am still a bit young for the shingles vaccine. Round here it is given to those who reach 70 and I am just a spring chicken of 66.
I did recently get a letter inviting me to have a jab against pneumonia though and, like you, wondered about the effects. I went to my GP and he said that, in my case, he couldn't see a problem with it. I am only on aspirin and venesections, being too stubborn to go onto the witches' brew just yet.
In the end, I cancelled my appointment because I had to go away on that day, so I didn't actually try it.
Hubby (no PV) just had his shingles vaccine about five days ago. He had had shingles a long time ago and was unsure whether he should have it. The GP said yes so he did but he has had a sore, almost inflamed, sensation in his neck and shoulder since then.
Not exactly the answer to your question. Sorry.

I have Pv and I'm on Jakafi. I've never had the chickenpox, so I can't get shingles. As for the flu shot, I never had one and am not about to have one now. However, everyone's different, and I would check with your dr. If I were you.

My understanding is that the flu shot is safe for PV sufferers as it does not include live viruses. The nasal spray version, however, should be avoided as it does contain live flu viruses. I've had PV for about 6 years now and have had the flu shot every year with no negative side effects, and no flu, for those years. Previously when I did not get the flu shot I suffered with the flu almost every year. Just my 2 cents, as I just received the flu shot yesterday while on a followup visit with my hemotologist.

You're welcome, good luck to you! FYI I have not (yet?) had the shingles vax so can't comment on that one.

Four days ago I received my latest flu inoculation as recommended by the surgery. Today saw the Haematologist who said it was the right thing to do, particularly if one had a reduced immune system. No after effects whatsoever.
