So i had a blood test few days back and my rbc came back high . i am 17 years old male and have high blood pressure . ( I become too nervous at Doctor's office while my bp is being measured and my cardiologist already confirmed it's White Coat but still i am on Vinicor D 25 and Solopose plus . {The doctor prescribed me solopose because of anxiety and sleep disorders} . I had an ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis which came back to be normal . My chest x Ray is also normal. I had an echocardiogram which was also normal . i had an ecg which showed tachycardia which my cardiologist said was due to high anxiety and sleep disorders . Here are my blood test reports . Welcome r74762.  I am newly diagnosed and I'm not a doctor but I would say there is nothing to be overly worried about.  Your PCV is slightly elevated but your doctor has ordered the JAK2 test already and you will learn a lot more from that.  If it comes back negative, I would guess they might ask you questions about your sleep disorders.  I know that they asked me a lot of questions about sleep apnea because it can cause secondary polycythemia.  If the apnea is causing the high blood counts, then they will likely focus on treating it to bring your numbers under control.

It sounds like your doctor may have experience with PV, and they are following the diagnostic procedures.

      Thanks for your response .

I got my blood test reports today and following are the results .

      ERYTHROPOIETIN (EPO) , SERUM @ (CLIA)                                                   14.60mIU/ml

JAK 2 , GENE MUTATION , PCR QUALITATIVE @ (Real Time PCR )          :      Not Detected

What do you infer from this ? what is the cause of increase in RBC in my blood?

Hi don't worry some people are actually born with PV , and can live a normally happy long life, with a heamotolgist in the background for help if required.

    Hope this helps .
