Horrendous shoulder and arm pain and meds not working...

Can anyone help? I have the most chronic pain in my right shoulder and upper arm for the last 2 week. I went to the Doctor and he gave me Tramadol which even touched the pain, so he told me to take paracetemol with the tramadol and ibuprofen inbetween. Its taking the edge off but its still agony and im not getting more that and hour of sleep at a time. Doc thinks its trapped nerve but what else can I do or get to ease this pain. Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks

    Hi

Usually if one pain killer {duller}wink doesnt work you go back and ask for a different one. He has put you on 3 different meds.....Be careful about the Ibroprufen....any anti-inflammatory plays havoc with the stomach and should be taken with a stomach protector like lansoprozol or moneprozol.....spellings not right I'm sure ...sorry.

What about asking for a referral to the hospital?

Hiya, thanks for your reply Eileen,

When Tramadol alone didint work thats when the Dr suggested addition of paracetemol and ibuprofen, which arent much use either. I am not one for the Dr but im not able to continue with this pain as its affecting my life, family, exercise, work etc etc. is there much point going back to Dr or should I just ride it out? Is there an alternative to these painkillers that will work? Feel like they just fob you off....sad

      Hi mitzi40?

Perhaps you have neurological pain in which case the ordinary pain killer will not do much for the nuero pain. I had neuro pain and I was given nortroptyline whivh helped with the pain and to sleep. It is actually an antidepressant which works for neuro., pain also.....but it should only be taken for short periods of time for pain.....longer as an antidepressant....hope this helps.....best wishes....
