Hi, I can't cope with the side effects, they make me feel worse than before. Any tips for tapering? I'm currently on lanzoprazole (30mg).

Depends on your symptoms but I wouldn't and my Dr didn't recommend long term use of it... Try controlling your symptoms by eating less spicy... No garlic... Less acidic like lemons oranges Vinegar etc in food... No alcohol or fizzy drinks... If you do get symptoms try gaviscon... Gaviscon aniseed one has less to no side effects but do read label and consult your Dr... I'm managing my stomach burning like this... Hope this helps x

Hello, I know exactly how you are feeling - I managed to get of lanzoprazol a year or so ago but it took me many weeks. I first tried going cold turkey and that was awful. So then tried tapering off over a a few months - gradually reducing the dose. Towards the end I was opening the capsule and tipping 1/3 out, then after 2 weeks 2/3 out and I was off!! I had been left on it for 2 years along with predisilone which I also managed to wean myself off too. Good luck - slowly is the answer and then you will be successful.

Thanks for your reply Amber. I spoke to a pharmacist today and she said just go cold turkey and so I've not taken one today and i'm taking gaviscon. I'm feeling very nervous, waiting for a tsunami of acid to hit! My ulcer pain is worse without the ppi, I'm so fed up 😦. This condition is ruining my life and making me depressed.

I quit cold turkey and had a massive bleed, ended up in ER for two days. I had a previous bleed one year previous for an unknown stomach ulcer caused by a blood thinner during knee replacement.

Hi Laura....I was on those, when I had H,Pylori infection.was on them for a month...when I realised they were leaving me feeling worse, I started tapering off slowly, its the only way, keep doing this, taking less each day, until your off them...if you get rebound acid reflux, take gaviscon, or rennies, If your stomach feels bad, ..mine did for a few days..but thankfully, I am off them now...your stomach will adjust, There is loads of stuff out there. for stomach problems, I really dont know, why, the DRs give us this poison....good luck with it..x.

Thanks Mariano. 2.5 weeks off them and I'm feeling much better. Used zantac and peptac and now on nothing and nearly normal. ppis are evil!

I'm on day 2 without the drug and feeling better as it leaves my system. The drug made me anxious, upset my stomach and gave me really bad insomnia so I can't stay on it.

On day 6 and having to take gaviscon a lot. Last night I didn't sleep for the nausea. I'm hoping I'm getting to the peak of rebound. GP has been rubbish and said to go back on it. I need to be off all drugs! Endoscope results were fine so I don't need to be on anything but rebound is horrible 😦.
