I have been sick for a month now, went to ER, chest xray done-bronchitis-but scarring on Lungs

I went to ER cause I've been aching and had been sick for a mo th, but the shortness of breath had gotten worse. Well Xray done, doc comes in and says Bronchitis-but also your xray shows scarring. I'm scared I know the next steps to take. I just visited my "patient portal" and seen my xray report. It says-

IMPRESSION: Mildly prominent interstitial markings without focal consolidations

What does this mean- IPF?

    Hi jess

Sorry to hear you are not well.  I would say this is by no means certain to be IPF so dont get too worried at this stage.  Suggest you ask for an examination from a Pulmonologist.  This is not an expensive test and gives a good insight into what is wrong. A CT scan is probably the next step but a diagnosis may not be possible with this.  Meanwhile make sure you are making the necessary life style changes.

Let us know how it goes.

    Hi jessfl86:

I agree that it is too soon to say what your scarring is.  The Radioligist's comments are typically medical jargon but it is important to note that it is "Mild".  You need to see a lung specialist and have a CT-Scan for a more difinitive diagnosis.  A Lung Function Test that measures exactly how your lungs are performing would also be helpful.

Keep in touch after your tests and don't be afraid to get your doctors to explain their diagnosis in language you can understand.  There are no dumb questions when it comes to your health.

    Good luck.
