i have had this condition for 3 years now, i'm tired and frustrated, and i have tried all the medication and the doses you can have. In july 2005 i had my first (LP) lumbar shunt, it is now may 2006 and i have now had 4 shunt revisions because the shunt is blocking. it took me 5 specialists to find one that knew what he was talking about. this condition is sooooooo hard for it's sufferers to deal with let alone the friends, families, children of the sufferers. all i know is that when my shunt works it's great, i wouldn't go back to all those medications. i might be getting a (VP) shunt next just waiting to find out. just make sure that you all remember that out there somewhere there are others and you are NOT alone.

I wish i could say to you that all you problems will be solved once they put a vp shunt in for you but im sorry to say i cant i have had 3 revisions on an lp shunt that i had in situ and have since had a vp shunt inserted and have had to have 5 revisions on that mind you the last revision was done in 1998 and has lasted a good 8 years now but in the last 6 months i have had my symptoms recure pressure headaches and blurred vision unfortunately i have developed such a high pain threshold to headaches over the years that i worry sometimes that i leave it to long to go to the doctors i am waiting for a bed on the neurosurgery ward at my local hospital for investigations im hoping that i do not need a revision as i have finally managed to get my hair to a nice length and love it i know it sounds a daft thing to be worried about but when you have had surgery as many times as me and had to keep having your head shaved it realy gets you down:yikes::magic:

before my VP shunt I had about 15 Lp's! I've had the shunt for 7 years now and can honestly say its given me my life back! I still have some bad days but on the whole I feel good. I have even managed to complete a degree in speech therapy and now work as well as looking after a family of 3 teenagers, so please there is hope! Good luck with the shunt.
