In the papers today

If anybody reads the Guardian, there is an article in it today saying that people with raised platelet numbers are more likely to develop cancer.

Oddly, someone on this forum (maybe Peter) recently commented that they had been struck by how many of us had also had some form of cancer.

Maybe it is the other way round then?

If you don't read the Guardian, you can see it online by typing in "Guardian platelets cancer".

    Hello Angela,

Many thanks for you response.  Changeable here today and it looks like we may get some rain.  Mrs. G will be happy.  Due to our sailing activities I undertook a 3 year  meteorological course. Extremely useful and interesting.  Saved me heaps of problems over the years.  Absolutely necessary if you venture to sea.  Keep happy and well.

    Peter.

If you like meteorology and you enjoyed the lightning site you might also like earth dot nullschool dot net. If you click on the word earth all sorts of information is available via furhter clicks. And if you have an ipad you can spin the earth around like Charlie Chaplin in the Great Dictator. Maybe you know of that one already though.

I have just been told that I have been awarded a ten day streak badge - now that would not be a pretty sight.mad

Yes, there are some quite extraordinary pictures available on the internet on all manner of subjects.  Some of them I was introduced to when studying deep sea navigation, meteorology, astro-nav etc.  The advances that today have been made are incredible.  Hope MPN's can get the same results with new technology like this.  However, things do march forward.  Didn't we see a public streaker at Twickenham Rugby some years ago ?  You can always make a more modern approach.

I assumed one of the later stages was Leukemia/cancer?

The article appeared in the Guardian newspaper on the 23rd of May. It was reporting the link between raised platelet counts and the increased incidence of stomach, oesophageal, colon and other cancers in men and women who took part in a study alongside people who did not have raised platelet counts.

If you google "guardian platelet cancer" you can still read the original article.
