Hello  Every one

with utmost Respectfully,  I would like to request that I need your advice regarding my recent blood test, if you know about this disease please.

I had my latest blood test done in the month of 30th October 2014 that  revels my Hemoglobin  is 18.6 g/L , Haematocrit is 0.57L/L ,  RBC Count is 7.3 x 10 12/L Platelet count is 710x10 9/L, serum cholesterol is 5.5 mmol/L, Serum Potassium is 5.4mmol/L and other things are normal but the pathologist has marked it Polycethyemia?

My previous medical history

1.      My potassium level was high some 3 years ago then later on it was proved normal after 2 frequent blood tests

2.      I had had a high platelet count 400.000 since last 7 years, but my doctor said it is normal

3.      High blood pressure “150/90” since last 10 years, but my doctor has started an anti hypertensive drug just 2 months ago it is now normal 120/80.

4.      As I am  asthematic  to some allergens such dust, cold air and some chemicals for this I am using  the blue inhaler, but when I get an asthma attack , I am not using it regularly.

5.      I have also sinusitis for last 7 years and I use anti allergy pills when required

Symptoms: high blood pressure and headache sometimes, but I am taking BP Medicine it is now fine.

Now my doctor has referred me to a hematology consultant  in the next month, I just want to know  is it a condition of polycethemia, I am very much worried and I have started gym soon after this blood test,  I am just 45 and I want to live longer, please help me I shall be thankful.

Kindest regards

Sorry to hear your diagnosis, I also have Polycythaemia, and your blood results are consistent with Polycythaemia Vera (PV), though your Haematologist will want to run further tests to find the source of why, by running a genetic test, most commonly the gene called JAK2 ( V617F ) to see if there is a mutation.

I have already post to you today but because I post url's links to my fb support group it needs to be checked by a moderator - which is good.

Hi Kaya. A high red blood count is usually one symptom for polycythemia Vera.

Your Doctor did the right thing in recommending a Hematologist. He is the one who will know the answer. Also, a high red count could be why you had high blood pressure, because it makes you have a large blood volume as well. My main symptoms were redish skin colour all over, overheating at night, and itching.

Please let me know what the Hematologist says. Good luck. My meds control my PV quite well. I take Hydroxyurea.

    Hi -

Maybe I've made an error - I see that your post is dated 2014.  Is your post a year old, or has the date been posted incorrectly?  I did not want to respond until I was sure of the posting date. Will check back tomorrow.

    Regards -
