Lansoprazole and blood pressure

This is just a warning for those on Lansoprazole. I have been taking 30mg
every morning for the last 8 months and have found it raised my blood
pressure to a very high level. I did not know it was the tablets until I forgot
to take them one day and when I took my blood pressure it had dropped but
when I took my tablet the next day my BP had gone back up. I have
stopped taking it and now found my blood pressure has dropped quite a bit. I
have also found it caused me to feel very very anxious. I had pains in my legs
which has now gone. My acid reflux has now come back so will be going back
to my Dr's for an alternative. So if you are taking Lansoprazole and notice your
BP is high or you feel anxious then it could be the tablets.

Hi there
thank you for the warning!,
Ive been on this for over a year i was prescribed them simply because I’ve so many other meds I may be sick.
However after talking to others this is not really what is for!! Also I feel after I’ve taken it a little hyped up restless.. that’s the blood pressure I thought before. As you’ve found.
I’m going to stop taking them completely as you well know anything to keep the anxiety down. I don’t really feel too bad when I have the other tablets.
It’s given mostly for acid reflux and all I have is a bit of a sick feeling.
Dont think this is helping me. A chat with the dr is in order I feel.
I hope they find and alternative for you.
once again thank you it may help lessen my Anxiety and others.
Im sure were not the only ones hey 🙂
Could you let us know what your dr suggest other than lansoprazole good luck

probably caused by one of your other meds. Perhaps try something
natural to ease your sickness such as Ginger tea or flat ginger ale.
I will let you know what Dr gives me when I go to see him.
Until then I am taking gaviscon.
I hope you feel better soon!
Since I stopped taking the Lansoprazole I feel calmer and BP is down.
Raised BP and being anxious has also been reported by other on this
medication.

Marilyn09,
One of the theories behind the increase in BP is that the decreased acidity from PPIs inhibits absorption of essential minerals like Potassium. It might be worth asking your doctor to check "intracellular" levels of potassium, magnesium and calcium.
Good luck.
