hi Gilly, I went through the EXACT same situation as you. Got diagnosed with acid reflux, was put on lansoprazole and within 2 days of taking them i became really ill! I was in severe pain my body went into overdrive and i was suffering from what i can only describe as 'extreme inflammation!' it was as if my body just became hyper sensitive to everything going in my body. i've been off them just over two weeks now and i firmly believe that i've been left with a severe case of acid reflux ironically caused by lansoprazole. How are you doing now? have your symptoms eased? Cleared up? from what I've been reading up on this awful drug, is that it takes months to recover from the withdrawals. I'm just hoping that with time, my body will start to recover??

Hi there. My experience of taking Lanzoprazole is more extreme. I was first prescribed this tablet some years ago, and have been taking one on the odd occasion when the heartburn got really bad. Sometimes I would have to take it two days in a row. In other words I took it sparingly. Last November the heartburn was really bad again so I took a Lanzoprazole tablet. Within an hour I had passed out on the floor, and it took over a half an hour to revive me. When the medic woke me up, my chest was burning, and I was violently sick on reaching hospital. Four days later after numerous tests, heart, brain, lungs, etc. Nothing showed up. Not realizing that it could have been the tablet, exactly the same thing happened two days later, and another tablet....back to the ER again. More tests ...nothing showed up again. Doctors assured me that it couldn't be the tablet, and gave me a prescription for a 30mg tablet. Within an hour of taking it, I was on the floor again, and another ER visit. Needless to say I have been avoiding this tablet since and have had no further episodes. Every doctor that I have spoken to in the hospital and outside, have said the same thing. "It could not be the Lanzoprazole ". I feel that it is too much of a coincidence.

Hi Gilly, I have not had reflux or irritation since stopping taking lansoprazole. If I do have anything I take gaviscon advance tablets and Pukka 3 fennel tea and that sorts it out. However I am 4.5 months after stopping them and my anxiety/general wellbeing is still pretty bad. I've never suffered with mental health issues before this (apart from exactly the same issues 10 years ago when I tried Omeprazole). I've just started a computerised cbt programme and counselling sessions through my work. I'm hoping they help x
