I have just had a biopsy of my lymph nodes in the chest and was looking for anyone who has had the same and what their experience of it was afterwards?

I had a needle biopsy of lymph nodes in the upper chest but not a full biopsy. Needle biopsy was easy to cope with, done under local anaesthetic gel and a teeny plaster over the site for an hour or so to catch any blood though it had stopped before I got out the department.

Some of the others who post here have had a full biopsy and seem to have had more problems afterwards.

Mine was used to make a differential diagnosis between sarcoidosis and lymphoma, lucky for me sarcoidosis was the winner.

      Hi morag

thanks for sharing your experience.  I had the biopsy and was quite sore.  I was having problems with low oxygen sats but the hospital released me a day after the op anyway to which seen me back in a and e the following evening with a chest infection. I spent the night in hospital and was discharged the following day with pain killers pumps and antibiotics.  I'm feeling much better now but the scar is still healing.

      Hope you are well.

    Hello Dominique,

Did you have problems after your biopsy? Unfortumately some people do. Any biopsy is invasive and given that they are taking a small piece of tissue out it is understandable that there may be some after effects which can be a little bleeding and some pain. Give your body time to heal. When we bleed the body has to absorb the blood to get rid of it because blood outside of the vessels is an irritant so not surprising we feel discomfort afer a biopsy. Think about what a bruise feels like. A lot of us are lucky and don't suffer any effects.

I had a bronchoscopy and biopsy and experienced some bad effects afterwards so understand how upsetting it can be. Obviously if you are experiencing a lot of pain or other symptoms since having the biopsy, then you need to go and see your GP just to be on the safe side and to put your mind at rest. There is nothing wrong with double checking to give you peace of mind.

    Hope this has helped.

    Kind regards,

    June

      Hi June.

Thanks for your comments.  I'm feeling much better now just awaiting the results of the biopsy. Incidentally have any of you had your results?  If you do not mind sharing.  I've been told it's either sarcoidosis or lymphoma. I have to go back to see the consultant on the third of sept.

Hope this message finds you well June.

      Hi Dominique,

I got my results the same day but I was lucky in one sense because the Sarcoidosis was so evident they had no problem diagnosing me. Unfortunately the tests can come back inconclusive for Sarcoidosis but they are usually able to say that it is not lymphoma, TB, caner, etc so knowing what it's not leaves them with the only other option which is Sarcoidosis. I hope that made sense.

Try not to get too stressed waiting for the results, I'm sure if it was anything sinister they would have called you in sooner.

Good luck for the 3rd September

      Hi June

just to let you know the biopsy confirmed sarcoid although that's all I was told and have been referred back to the lung specialist.  I'm feeling a lot better not sur what to expect next.  I know that they recommend steroids.  But I don't think in my car it would be wise to take them as I'm very overweight and have osteoarthritis in my spine and knees plus an enlarged heart so putting on more weight would exasperate my condition.

      How are you feeling?

      Kind regards

      Dominique

Hi! I had a mediastinoscopy and lymph nodes were removed for biopsy. I was warned about coughing up thick mucus post-biopsy. This happened but wasn't too bad. I then had a stitch abscess in my neck but this cleared up with antibiotic cream. I wish you well.

Hi, i had a bronchoscopy and a transbronchial biopsy yesterday. Feeling a bit worse for ware today. They wanted to get about 7 samples of tissue but only managed 2 because i had a bleed in my lung. Just hope they can diagnose my sarcoid now. Take care Julie

      Hi Julie.

So they have given you a definite result then?  What were your symptoms?

      Kind regards

Try and take it easy over the next few days Julie and if you start to feel any pains in your chest and breathlessness (other than what you normally experience) make sure you get yourself off to A&E just to be on the safe side. The reason I am saying this is because you said you had bled into your lung during the biopsy so you are a bit more at risk of forming a blood clot which I'm sure they will have told you is not a good thing. Don't leave it to chance if you are feeling more unwell.

I hope you are feeling better soon.
