I have been prescribed this for heavy bleeding and painful periods. It says 500mg 3 times a day. Just wondering what everyone else takes?

i was prescribed 250mg 3 times per day. however, this dose did not relieve the pain so i have always taken one 500mg dose together with a 500mg dose of co-codamol.

i only really suffer bad pains at the onset of my period, the first few hours, so i do not take extra doses after the initial 500mg of mefenamic acid and 500mg of co-codamol.

also, i also find that crouching under the shower on a high power setting is very good if you suffer from dull pain in your lower back during your period. the force at which the water hits your back is quite theraputic, almost like a massage, and it eases the pain, for me anyway.

hope this helps for you too if you have back pain! smile

Hi I have been on mefenamic Acid for my periods for the past 15 years - I take 3 tablets a day - 500mg each for the first few days. They do help but since having my baby 3 months ago my periods have been allot heavier and more painful so I have to take paracetamol as well. Does anyone take Mefenamic Acid before their period starts ?
