My Dad

My Dad died last Thursday of Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was 88 and had only been diagnosed with the condition in April of this year.

He was on permanent oxygen at home and whenever he got a chest infection he was treated with antibiotics and steroids.None of which really helped. He found it bewildering that the consultant told him there was nothing they could do for him.

The most noticable effect after the severe breathlessness was his rapid weight loss.He had weighed 10 stone from the time he was 21 until he was 87 but in the last 6months his weight had dropped to 7 stone 10lbs.

He received good care from Hospital and social services, but it is a cruel, life sapping disease. I am just glad that he went relatively quickly and peacefully.

My dad died yesterday, he was 61, but had Pulmonary Fibrosis for 8 years, keeping low, until 2 weeks ago, when he was rushed to hospital. Over this time i noticed his breathing was getting worse and worse, but my dad kept saying that he would be out soon, planning for motorised scooters etc etc.

He didn't even know that his sunday night sleep would be his last, going in his sleep i'm also glad he went peacefully and without pain.

My sympathies to all who have posted here

My Dad died in september last year he was 57 years old. He was rushed to hospital with shortness of breath he spent 6 weeks in hospital 3 of those in intensive care on a ventilator after 4 weeks of tests we were told he had fibrosis and would not survive fortunately my Dad was not told until near the end - My family was with him when he died and thankfully he was sedated and not in any pain. Fibrosis is a cruel disease and watching someone you love battle it is heartbreaking.
