Omeprazole 20MG

I started omeprazole Thursday morning, I take one a day. I take it in the morning since my doctor said it works best on an empty stomach. But by the end of the day I feel like the medicine starts to wear off. Is it okay to take tums as well?

Please put omeprazole in the search bar and read through the threads.  Many people are trying to get off of it, myself included, and the withdrawals are horrific.  The drs. don't tell you about this.  If used at all, it's supposed to only for short term.  It can cause osteoporosis;  I'm pretty sure that's how I got it after taking the med for a number of years. Please check out the other posts.  There are alternatives.

You have to do it very slowly; Drop one a week for a month, then drop another one for another one.and continue with the pattern.

Hi Dev, I am taking a short course of Omeprazole, and there are a few occasions where I have taken Gaviscon or Rennies with no ill effects. I agree with Lindy that ideally it is only a short term drug because of the side effects. I started with 40mg and had constant leg cramps. I had to stop for 3 days, during which the cramps subsided, and then started again on 20mg for 3 days before going back to 40mg. I have a week left on that dose then 4 weeks at 20mg then hopefully finished. I also take a multi vitamin supliment to counteract the fact that omeprazole reduces the absorption of some nutrients.
