Calm down.  Go to medscape and type PPIs Linked to Higher Risk for Death (you must login first) and your anxiety will decrease...

It sounds like her side effects " heart palpitations nausea blurred vision and shaky " are suspiciously like anxiety from taking the meds.

I've been taking PPI's since 2001 and I'm now 83. A doctor I see has been taking them for even longer.

I started taking Prevacid, moved on to omeprazole back in the late (?) 90's, and took them pretty consistently, switched a couple years or so ago to 10 mg from 20, but I did have a lot more anxiety, heart flutters, etc., so I decided not long ago to stop.  I do have to still take rantinidine 150 mg at least twice daily, even though I did change my diet a lot.  Christmas I didn't take my rantinidine with me to my brother's house, and couldn't wait to get home to get one.  I will say I miss not having heartburn and reflux at all, but I don't know, the jury is still out.  Many still take it, and seem to be fine.
