Omeprazole has wrecked my life help

hi all

2022 December 17 i had a bad flu like symptoms

i had this for around a week . i then had bad sinus infection that i had antibiotics for . because i had the flu i couldnt eat so the antibiotics caused me to have reflux type symptoms . so was prescribed omeprazole 20mg was on these around 5-6 weeks on and off

i went to see a ENT specialist as i also had sore throat . i had camera to check my throat and he said i had silent reflux that was causing my sore throat ear pain and maybe the sinus problems .

so he upped my dose to 40mg omeprazole and take Gaviscon after every meal . from day one of taking the 20mg my mind wasnt right i felt like i was in a daze constantly and had no urgency to do anything and thats not like me at all im a very active fit boxer whos constantly on the go doing something . when the ENT upped my dose to 40mg i went to bits . couldnt sleep /eat / shaking from head to toe and was having anxiety attacks . i was suicidal also . on day 5 i stopped them as i was at a breaking point and could only put it down to omeprazole as i dont drink / smoke and never had any mental illnesses in my life . im 6 weeks off it now but still my mind isnt right at all . i got brain fog / fatigue / anxiety / suicidal thoughts/ blurred vision / and my stomach feels like its constantly bloated caused by omeprazole . has anyone had similar to me and did they ever get back to normal . im 34 and a father of 3 with a great wife to be and i just cant live like this anymore . any information be great . ive seen 4 different doctors and theyre all in on it trying to get me back on the drug plus antidepressants that i wont take . feels like im going around in circles . HELP please any information be great

    also im very dehydrated even tho im drinking a good lot of water . and my urine smells strong .

      Hi Thomas,

      I wanted to reply to you as my symptoms have been almost identical to yours. I was on 20 mg omeprazole for a year when about 4 months ago all of the symptoms you mentioned struck me out of the blue. I didn't put 2 + 2 together until going online and reading all of the personal accounts such as yours.

      I'm sorry that I'm not much help with the long range prognosis though. I have only been off myself for 2 weeks as of today. My symptoms have maybe subsided somewhat but not fast enough for me. I have a good day or two and then I have a couple bad days again. So frustrating! I'm on here also looking for others' experience who are further along in the process.

      But I wanted you to know that you're not alone and I wish you best of health. Keep posting with your progress and I will do the same.

    You took them for 5-6 weeks but how many doses? i can tell you that you should see some upside. Try not to let it consume you. I didnt take it for as long but similar symptoms. Try taking a multivitamin and eating right. Do you have anxiety and insominia?
