Omeprazole Side Effects? Light headed? Anxiety Attacks

My Mother was experiencing severe pain across her ribs and back which the doctors say is indigestion but only now and again. She was put on Omeprazole about a month ago and after taking one in the morning she starts to feel light headed, dizzy and generally unwell. She then seems to panic about it and feels she cant breathe which makes her panic more. Her chest and heart are perfectly fine. She stopped taking the tablets yesterday in case they are causing these problems and she is having tests done next week to check for ulcers etc. Has anyone else had these problems? How long do the side effects take to go away when you have stopped taking them?

Hi,
I have been taking omeprazol for a month now after i ended up in A&E with a chest pain and panic attack. Since then i have been experiencing anxeiety and panic attacks as well. Lightheaded also, my doctor said that might be the medicine.
The only weird thing is that I ma experiencing pain in my arms and legs but only from ym knees to ankles and from my elbow to fingers, it has been keeping up for around 5 days now. Did anyone else have it?? I am getting really worried about it. It feels like i excersised or carried something heavy but i didn't...

06/14/2017 - Long story short. I've been on Omeprazole from over-the-counter to 20MG prescription to 40MG prescription for 4 weeks. I have experienced burning sensation after urination, anxiety attack, fatique, lightheadedness and weakness. I'm also having chest irritation which causes me to dry-cough, unsure if this is another side effect. I stopped taking Omeprazole today, I hope will feel better. Instead, Im using Gaviscon (liquid). I hope my acid reflux will be better and the coughing will be gone.

I was on Prilosec for 6 weeks and had many simular effects near the end but I also had a reaction mixing the drug with meds during scope of the throat/stomach. Ive learned a lot in my 3 month journey and I was not successful switching to a different form of acid blocker. I did switch to Nexium and after 4 weeks experiencing liver issues with abnormal bilirubin at 1.7. Plus my gastritis is not getting better and my stomach feels like it's starting to ulcerate in 3 spots. Still yet to be treated for Hpylori but acid blockers and carafate hinder the test with negative results even though I may be positive. I have been splitting up my 40mg ppi to 30mg at 6am and 10mg at 6 hrs later. So if you happen to go back to a ppi make sure you take a bilirubin blood test after 2 weeks and see how your liver is doing.

I started to take prilosec about a month ago and I'm experiencing anxiety, nausea, always tired and even got a rash. I decided to stop taking today and am hoping the symptoms will stop. I don't want to eat or anything. I feel horrible.so much so that I'm going to a therapist to see if I'm just going crazy or if it the meds! Hope your mom is doing better.

You are not going crazy. I got all those effects with Prilosec. The drug screws with your liver so try lowering or spreading out your dosage or take it with food to weaken it. I say your dose is slightly too strong. Get a bilirubin blood test to see effects it's having on you.

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. It's good to know that I'm not going crazy and others are having the same side effects. Not that I am happy they are suffering to. That came out wrong.

I know what you mean..
Eating is a normal function like breathing air and when those main functions are disrupted it messes with your head. In 3 months I have read everything about gastritis. When the doctor runs out of tests and tells you are a mystery it can increase anxiety. Find things that calm you to lower stress. I've lost 40lbs in 3 months and hit bottom 1 time in the emotion dept. Try relaxing music or a hot bath, heating pad on your stomach can feel good. I eat rice, broccoli, ripe bananas, avocado, cooked soft veggies. Check the PH chart on all your foods and be sure your water is alkiline. Eliminating all sodium was a big help for me lowering my irritation. Apple's and Avocado help reduce inflammation of the body. Stay away from inflammatory foods. Also procossed sugars, soda and alcohol avoid at all costs.

I lost almost 20 pounds. The anxiety is the worst and I already struggle with an anxiety disorder so this has pushed me over the edge. I am an emotional reck at this point . I have two kids to take care of and I don't have time for this. Thank u for the food options now I just have to get it down without vomiting from the anxiety that makes my stomach feel like it's in knotts! I do have meds for that with no side effects thankfully.

From what I read this can be a long process. You need to focus on diet change and stress reduction. Àgain I'm 3 months in and getting worse as my stomach is starting to ulcerate.

I recently lost my father and started suffering with chest pains. I was taken to hospital, had my bloods tested, an ecg and chest X-rays. Everything came back fine. They told me I had reflux due to the stress and upset so prescribed me Omeprazole 20mg to be taken once a day.
After a couple of days, I felt new symptoms. Symptoms I'd never experienced before.
I have light headedness, nausea, tingling through my body and dizziness. I just by chance typed in Google 'Omeprazone side effects' and lo and behold, this thread appeared. To my amazement, I have noticed lots of people with my symptoms. I thought I was going mad as it couldn't be those 20mg tablets causing all this?
Looks like Omeprazone IS the culprit despite my doctor trying to assure me otherwise. I'm going to change my prescription to another medicine and hope that has less side effects in controlling my reflux. I'm hoping once I get over the upset of losing my father, it goes away of its own accord.

Yeah try Zantac or look up licorice chews from vitamin shoppe also you can look for a chiropractor that know how to adjust hiatal hernias mine does with great success. Also if I start to deal acid coming up or chest pain I chew gum.. you have no idea how much gum has saved me lol, it helps because the saliva washes the acid down away from esophagus. Another thing is if you really are open to the possibility if it being stress look up TMS dr Sarno .. this has saved me the most
