According to MIMS the drug catalogue issued to GP's Omeprazole and Losec are the same drug but with huge price differences.

      Omeprazole 10 mgms £1.25 for 28 tablets

      20 mgms £1.24 for 28 tablets

      40 mgms £6.96 for 7 tablets

      Losec 10 mgms £9.30 for 28 tablets

      20 mgms £13.92 for 28 tablets

      40 mgms £6.96 for 7 tablets

Same drug just different manufacturers so GP's will be advised not to prescribe Losec.

Have I missed something here? I take Omeprazole but wasn't aware of any awful side effects. Can anyone enlighten me please?

Oh susan I can't believe it! I have been suffering from these symptoms. I thought it was just me. I suffer from Rheumatoid arthritis so I thought some of my symptoms were are result of that. I'll be speaking to my GP on Monday so I'll be discussing it with her.

Matron im real angry to read of yet another victim of these omeprazole, Yes go to your doctor and if you can get a print out of the side affects that others are exeriencing on hear. As i say there are some that dont seem to suffer anything but the amount that do seems to be far outweighing those who dont. Your not by any chance on statins as well are you? my mum was put on these to prevent high cholesterol which she didnt have anyway. she had bad leg pains and could hardly walk, the dr. actually admitted her hubby had the same problems too! she stopped taking these and within 2 days she was fine. im not recommending we all stop taking drs. prescribed meds hear as some are life saving  but thanks to this patient uk we are least being alerted to side affects that possibly we would have never have known about otherwise.

Hi susan. No I'm not on statins (thank goodness) and I have always said I'd never take them anyway. I now have no real need to take Omeprazole as I've made the decision to stop taking Naproxen as it is not giving me any pain relief from my Rheumatoid arthritis and I'll be telling my GP of my decision tomorrow! You're absolutely right, if we didn't have this web site we'd be left in the dark. I'm always grateful for the support.

doctors dont care about side effects its all about money these days health comes 2nd

It would certainly appear so bowl. A lot of GP's are more loyal to the drug reps than they are to their patients. They are never more happy than when they are prescribing the cheapest drug possible to keep their practice managers and practice pharmacists happy. It's a lottery out there when it comes to our health.

So why are you paying so much for your medication? An NHS prescription is £8.10 per item but you can get an annual season ticket as well.
