Hi everyone!

This is my situation:

44 yo woman that has weird symptoms for about a year:

Muscle bone pains for 5 months straight, EXTREME fatigue, some night sweat, feeling out of it, dry mouth dry eyes, floating stool as of lately, what worries me is my blood work, somewhat high hemocrit hemoglobin and now WBC at 12.000

Please look at my hmc and tell me if you think is elevated, no doctor mentioned anything to me about it!! But I researched and found this polychythemia disease

How do I upload my test??

Hi I don't know how to down load but just type them, are you in the UK or US as the red blood cells are different depending where you live?

If it is does it mean I am at final stage with all this symptoms?

i think I'd be looking to see a specialist in MPN, just because your all a little over except your platelets, my numbers get higher my heamocrit gets to 54 and heamoglobin 17.5 at highest it's been but and he's but it's only my red mainly. my white has never got any higher than 8.00, but my platelets have got higher than 450. I'm no doctor but with it been your red and white I would be your own advocate and ask to see someone just to rule out PV, as PV in some cases can be white, red and platelets, but your high white could indicate other things too. Good luck xx

Hi lidia Icant see your test results my I pad can't enlarge enough. I can tell you that normal hematocrit levels are 37.0 - 47.0.  Platelet range is 150 - 400.  In Pv platelets canbe over 1 million.  Mine were.  You need further testing to rule in or out Pv.  We're all in a panic at first cause it's such a rare disease we never heard of.  As Julia said try & see an MPN specialist and get the answers you need.

Hi Lidia, please don't worry, I'm sure if you GP was worried about it, he would of been fast to send you to see a specialist, like Kieth said there could be many reasons for it, please talk to your GP as you sound really anxious, in most cases it's not PV but some other reason and I know it's hard to relax it will consume your thoughts but the specialist and your gp will help with your anxiety xx

    Hi Lidia

Whilst your Haematocrit and Haemoglobin levels are in the higher range, they are nonetheless still within the normal limits. Your red blood cell count is only just over and this can be caused by a number of things. Red blood cells themselves are responsible for carry oxygen around the body with Haemoglobin being the main component. If there is a lack of oxygen then your body will produce more red blood cells in order to try to compensate for this. If you smoke, this can impact on your oxygen levels as can living at high altitudes. There are as mentioned, many reasons as to why red blood cells can be high so please don’t think the worst. As mentioned, your Haematocrit and  Haemoglobin levels are within range and these are a pretty good indicator as to whether you would have Polycythaemia or not whether it be Primary or Secondary. Whilst White Blood Cells and indeed Platelets can also be raised in 50% of patients with Primary Polycythaemia, White Blood Cells fight infection so the fact they are raised could indicate you may have some sort of infection.  I do stress may, you may not. I am not a Doctor but my own personal view is that you are not at a late stage of Polycythaemia.  I would raise your concerns with your family physician Lidia and if you are still concerned then ask to see a Haematologist or MPN specialist who specialise in bloods.

    Hope this helps

    Kind regards

Hi Lydia. Your GP should refer you to a Hematologist who can diagnose you. I have Polycythemia Vera, and yes, was diagnosed with high red blood count and also high white blood count. I am treated with Hydroxyurea, and have been for five yrs now. I lead a normal life, and feel ok most of the time. Insist that your Gp get a referral for you to see the Hematologist. It is very important that he diagnose you properly. Hope this helps you to make a decision.

Will say a prayer for you to get diagnosed.
