PPI "cold turkey"

Hello,

I had 8 duodenal ulcers, gastritis, duodenitis and esophagitis. After taking PPI I did another endoscopy and it showed that everything is healed. This in a period of 7/8 weeks. The second endoscopy came about because I had become really sick from the PPI(nausea, convulsions, vomiting, ...) After I was told that everything was healed, I did a "cold turkey". The first week was not too bad. Now it is almost 3 weeks further and I have a burning pain in the stomach again, very nauseous. Is this the rebound effect? I took the PPI for a month and a half. Will I ever be healthy again? Swallowing the PPI back is not a solution because they make me extremely ill.

I have the camera both ends, and discovered I had gastritis and diviticulitis , I had Lansopresole 30mg for 2 years, then I asked the doctor if I could come off them . He said to just stop taking them, I did. I've since been told by other health professionals that I should have reduced the dosage first, but I believed what the doctor said. One whole year later and I still live on Gaviston, between 14 and 50 a week, depending how stressed I am but never a day without them. I have an appointment, next week, to see a different doctor. Please don't stop any tablet suddenly, wean yourself off them. I wish I hadn't listened to the doctor, and I wish I'd asked for a second opinion.

I know but taking tablets again is no option. PPI make me really sick (shaking body, vomiting, nauseous.

It's like choosing between cancer and the plague.

Have you tried the alternative medication HS2 (Zantac). The work differently and may suit you better.

Not yet. When I'm too nauseous i take a Zofran. For the heartburn I don't take anything for the moment.
