    Hello katld,

Please search on my ID of ZSS. I have gone into reasonable detail on several posts of what to expect when taking prednisolone for a long time.

Briefly, my side effects were nausea, "going loopy", when driving, feeling like you are not going fast enough and consequently speeding. Being irritable and aggressive, sleepy and off your food.

The worst ones are substantial weight gain, mostly consisting of fluid and Addison's disease after long term use.

When coming off prednisolone, you must follow the doctor's instructions carefully it is most important.

I hope you are feeling OK.

    All the best.

      Hi zss,

What is addisons disease? As you may have read I have had alot of side effects from the steroids and I am still on them prob for another year at this rate.

Plus my specialist has taking me.off my bone tablet, I don't know why... But I'm not seeing him till January so I will find out then if I've to go back on them.

The driving thing. That is weird you saying that as i was saying to my partner i felt very weird when i have been driving on occasions its hard to explain though..ive had some seriously achey joints mainly my knees hips and fingers but other then that so far ive been ok. I started on 60mg im now dowm to 40mg on tuesday i go down to 35mg smile but i feel no effect no different at all. I wonder if that means its not working x

      Hi katld,

Your 4th week is still very early to know I was told at least a couple of months before I notice any change. Your weaning off them very fast if your down to 40 mg already, are you going to be on them long term?

I can't believe you are both talking about driving because I have noticed changes especially driving at night, maybe it's the glare from street lights and other cars I'm not sure.

Not really sure tbh. I think they are seeing how they get on with me. She didnt really say anything to be honest just got told i have sarcoidosis my lungs are very inflammed and she wants me to have 12 weeks on steroids i dont know what the norm is or anything. Or even if they have had any effect at all x

Hello Amanda, Addison's disease in the context of taking prednisolone is a deficiency of the naturally produced steroid, cortisol.

Taking prednisolone makes the body wind back it's own cortisol production.

In my case, after taking two long courses of prednisolone in 2014 and 2015, my cortisol levels took a long time to recover. Most of this year up until about 3 weeks ago, I was still recovering from cortisol deficiency. It was a constant feeling of fatigue and everything was an effort.

Right now, I only have the fatigue caused by the sarcoidosis, so I have enough energy to enable me to resume my home renovations on a room.

Hi katld, I was just wondering how you were getting on? I have been on steroids for around 3 weeks now but am not really feeling much of a change. Just wondering if they the meds kicked in for you in the past 4 months?

      Thanks
