Ranatadine v Omeprazole

I've been off Omeprazole since December. Had a few issues initially then things settled down. The last month Feb 2017 hasn't been good. My GP allowed me to try Ranatadine but I had to increase to one at night too. I'm still getting burping and a lump in my throat.
In the morning I think I will try taking Omeprazole 10mgs again but just for a week to see if things settle down then will try going back to Ranatadine.
Does anyone think this is a good idea or have any advice please.

Omeprazole is better at reducing acid than ranitidine. Why did you come off it? And why were you on it in the first place? Were the "few issues" to do with the drug? If so did you try an alternative PPI like lasoprazole?
10mg omeprazole is a very low dose so you may not notice any help from that level. The normal maintenance dose is 20mg and a normal high dose 40mg. (I was on 80mg for a few years prior to having a fundoplication (reflux reduction surgery) . ) Are you having the medicine prescribed and monitored by a doctor? (If you have acid reflux issues that don't clear up after a few weeks with these powerful drugs, you should discuss it with a doctor. )
But is it acid or reflux that's your main problem? PPIs like omeprazole and H2 blockers like ranitidine are good at reducing acid but not the reflux.
The medication will make reflux less erosive to protect your oesophagus from permanent damage ( = Barrett's Oesophagus which, in a very small percentage of cases, can mutate to cancer) . Omeprazole (and other PPIs) has been shown to have a probable protective effect against progression to cancer (by 71%) which has not been seen with ranitidine.
To reduce acid, you need to follow the lifestyle guidelines:
Lose weight if necessary. Do not overfill your stomach - eat little and often. Avoid exercise after food that will compress, tilt or shake yur stomach. Avoid tight clothing. Leave at least 3 hours between your last meal and going to bed. etc.

Thanks for your reply. I came off Omeprazole because It was originally prescribed along with Gabapentin and diclofenac for a herniated disc. I wasn't tolerating the diclofenac well so was told to stop as it wasn't helping my back pain either. I stayed on the Omeprazole for another 4 months but started to experience weight gain bloating headaches burping anxiety and excessive crying low mood and felt rotten. I felt I was on too many drugs also including Trazodone which I've been on for 3 yrs. I take that for maintenance. However last summer was very stressful and painful with my back so I had a lot going on.
I took Omeprazole 20mgs yesterday but swapped to 300mgs ranatadine today and have a touch of heartburn now but have taken 300mgs again tonight having spoke to a Dr. Ive to see him on Tuesday to feel my tummy and refer me for an endoscopy.
Since stopping Omeprazole in December I've lost 5Ibs but I'm also tapering off Gabapentin having gone from 1500 now to just 600mgs.
I've had Non steroidals on and off for years post surgery or for headaches etc but I think I now need a diagnosis. I don't want to just take Omeprazole for something they just think I might have.
As I type I have heartburn so I guess that means I have reflux not just acid doesn't it?
I take Magnesium to counter the Gabapentin withdrawal and probiotic to help my tummy. I should be rattling!
