Really suffering, need some advice.

Hello, I don't know if anyone has any advice, but I am at the end of my rope.  In a nutshell, I am 49 and going through Perimenopause. I suffer from IBS with alternating D and C.  Every month I get my period and I get diarrhea usually or have to go 4 to 5 times a day.  When I am PMS I get horrible cramping in my stomach/pelvic area and lower back.  I have had every test you could think of, from Gastro doc to Gynocologist doc.  All normal, just some small fibroids.  I have taken Vicodin in the past for knee surgery and neck problems.  I have noticed that during my menstrual cycle and before, when the cramps start, one VIcodin stops all the horror in 20 minutes and I am funcional and fine for the day.  However, doctors will not perscribe these meds loosly.  Because of the people who get addicted and play with it, it has ruined it for those of us who do not abuse it but help give us our life back.  I asked my Gyno for just 5 pills a month to get me through my period, she said no.  My GP will only give it to me which is maybe one a year to help get me through a pinched nerve spinal steneosis neck episode.  I don't know what to do, NSAIDS kill my stomach and nothing else works like the Vicodin.  What can I do ? please advise if possible..

Yes...the laws now require physicians to write triplicates for the fill of Vicodine. Physicians do not like writing triplicates for patients who aren't on hospice...once this law went into effect many physicians were changing patients regular medications of Vicodine/hydrocodone/lortab to something that didn't require a triplicate. I saw many of these medications get discontinued and replaced for Ultram aka Tramadol. If it is the triplicate that is the problem...I would ask your Doctor for Tramadol. If she still doesn't want to do it, it is most likely your Doctor doesn't feel your symptoms are severe enough to warrant anything other than an over the counter pain med. Tramadol can still be abused, and Drs need a diagnosis to prescribe the medications they prescribe. This med is prescribed post surgery, root canals, etc., Pre-menstrual cramps, in the eyes of your doctor, may not warrant such strong pain medications. In this case, you would have to ask your Doctor to help you with the symptoms with different types of medications..

Does make a lot of sense, never heard of Tramadol. But I will reach out to my doc for options. Thanks again.

Jenniger85396, I have IBS also and I take medication daily for it, I take 1 pill 4 times a day and that seems to help with the IBS. Are you currently on IBS medicine ? If not you need to talk to your doctor about putting you on some as it will help with the bloating/bowel problems that you have. You said you have some small Fibroids ? Are you talking about in your bowels ? If so have you had a colonoscopy ? I had some problems a few years ago and I was having diarrhea and lost 30 pounds not trying to but it was because of the fibroids so during a colonoscopy the doctors took care of removing all the fibroids, because they're nothing but problems and could be causing alot of the pain that your experiencing. If your not talking about in your bowels then your talking about in your uterus. If this is the case that will cause a severe amount of pain and what I did because I was having heavy periods and my back would hurt me so bad I finally had a hysterectomy and that seems to solve all problems, but since I don't know if your through having children or if that's something you are young enough to still want, have you considered seeing if your Gyno will do a D&C to clean everything up and out and that may help with the pain you've been experiencing. I hope you find the answer to all the pain that you have been in and you find some relief. Keep us updated on what you find out and if you get some relief. May God Bless you.
