Reoccurrence possible while on 500 mg of Diamox?

Diagnosed approx 14 years ago. Started on 1000 mg Diamox for two years. Went off and symptoms came back. Put me back on 500 mg and have been on that ever since with little to no symptoms. last three weeks symptoms are back-headaches are horrendous. Worried that since I am on 500mg of Diamox that the symptoms are a an actual

Brain tumor and not IIH. I did gain approx 15-18 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Years. Is that enough weight to cause a flare up? Has anyone else had a return of symptoms while on Diamox? Scared. Thanks

    It sounds like you need to get a second opinion from a neurologist?

      I could not tolerate Diamox, but you may want to see if more Diamox does better.

      Yes that weight gain I would say could easily cause a flair up. Lumbar Puncture would answer the question definitely, as would a detailed MRI of the brain especially the optic nerve sheaths. If those head aches are from IIH, those nerves get inflamed and either show pronounced (meaning signal intensity) ir look like there is black lining inside the nerve sheath. And an MRI would certainly show a tumor or aneurysm.

      Do you have any other symptoms besides headaches?

      Thank you so much for responding!  No other symptoms.  Saw my Primary Care and she looked at my optic nerves and said they didn't look swollen.  Even when I was initially diagnosed my optic nerves were swollen but not by much.  She gave me a quick neuro exam and said everything looked fine.  Headaches are my only symptom.  They are pressure headaches that move around all over my head, not one spot specifically.  I know these are IIH headaches but my worry is that I am on the Diamox.  I just don't know if you can have a flare up while on Diamox.

    I have had a return of symptoms and they told me that it was because I had built a tolerance to it. I started at 500mg twice a day, moved to 750mg and am up to 1000mg twice a day as of yesterday...

    I hope they figure out your med issues
