Hi is, so they act as though you aren't sick. Yes, I think because it's a rare disease, people think it sounds weird to them that we could have too much blood in our bodies. I too worried about how long I would live with this serious disease. I put everything in my daughter's name, even my car. I felt I shd prepare to die. Now, the more I learn, the more I think I could live a normal life span. I have had this diagnosis for four years now, and am 71. I walk an hour each morning, then go directly to the gym 3 days per week for an hour. Then go directly to curves the other 3 days per week. That means I work out 2 hrs per day. Sure, I will sometimes take an hour nap around noon or so. But I clean the kitchen a few times a day at my daughters busy home. I also wash the floors, do laundry, cause they use lots of towels, clean outside too. I am always busy

Hello and thanks for your response.

It is reassuring to know that other people feel the same as I did when I got my diagnosis. You certainly sound very active - I try to walk with the dog every day but never fancied the gym!! I do feel much better about the whole thing now that my blood counts are under control (hopefully) but the initial diagnosis was a bit of a shock as I have never really been ill (fortunately).

I am glad to hear you feel so well and able to carry on as normal. I am a bit younger than you (67) and have only had this disorder for a relatively short time. Reading the comments on this forum have certainly cheered me up a lot.

Hi Janet, yes, I've had PV diagnosis for 3 yrs. I started going to curves, and then increased the exercise to 5 days per week, and stay an hour. Most women there are told to start with 3 days per wk, and only 30 mins. But, it's fun cause we talk a lot there, and it's a social thing. Helps with boredom, something to look forward to. Exercise is also good for my arthritis. good for the bone strength.

      Hello again

You have made me feel much better about the PV. I had got the idea in my head that life as I knew it was over! Bit dramatic or what? At first I was at hospital just about every week - now its only every two months or so which is much better. I used to go to Keep Fit class up to being about 50 but tailed off after that due to my daughters work hours (we went together) Poor excuse I know. Perhaps I had better get my lazy self off to excercise class or something. Will check out Curves - think I have seen this advertised locally.

Hi Janet, just  wanted to mention that with my medicare, ILOOK ed in the book; and silver sneakers gives me free curves, or many other gyms. I go to curves three days a week, and 24 hr fitness the other three days. I like to change it up, use different machines sometimes. However, at curves, there only other women, which is nice for socializing.
