side effects of omeprazole

About 2 months ago I was prescribed lansoprazole for acid reflux and all was well for about 3 weeks but then I developed some strange red skin rashes. I went back to GP and was prescribed omeprazole. Rashes cleared up for a while but now, after about another 4 weeks on that they have come back.

The acid reflux has gone but I am really suffering with the red patches and skin itching. It is worst on the backs of my legs and on my forearms.

I have gradually reduced the dose to 10mg daily with no acid problems but I am reluctant to stop completely.

Difficulty is I don't know whether the rashes are caused by the omeprazole or something else. Has anyone else had these rashes and if so what did you do?

Thanks

I too developed a skin rash after taking lanosprazole for a couple of weeks - when I visited the docs initially they said it was unlikely to be the drugs but just in case they chnaged my meds to omeprazole, well the next day the rash was even worse so I went back to docs and he said the rash was not drug related but some sort of bacterial infection and was prescribed steroid tablets and antibiotics and told to stay on the omeprazole whilst taking the steropid and then to stop. I did this and all was fine for a few weeks then I had another attack of the stomach pains so went back to docs who told me to restart the omeprazole for 2 weeks and sent me for tests for Gallstones - am just awiating verdict on friday

I was on 20mg omeprazole a day and it did not stop my burping and reflux and I had leg cramps every night with constipation and was not able to swallow.

Same problem with omeprazole. I noticed itchiness within days of starting omeprazole on the backs of my legs, thought it was dry skin (can't see the backs of my own legs). Ten days in, I stopped the omeprazole because my ulcer symptoms subsided, but noticed a serious rash of raised red and itchy bumps that extend from the tops of my feet, up my legs (family members say much worse on the backs of my legs), my hands (worse around my nailbeds, and fingers). Three days after stopping omeprazole, still getting worse. Now on my face, my lips (which are swollen), my chest and neck. Went to hospital emergency, waited 2 hours to be seen, and was told they don't deal with non-threatening allergic reactions. Was sent home and told that if I had symptoms of anaphylaxis, I should call 999.
