Sore Eyes, shortness of breath

Hello everyone,

I have been taking Lans' now for nearly 10 years and can just about operate on 30mg a day, if I come off them I get cronic bloating, sickness, tiredness etc. Not pleasant at all.

I have over the years developed a dry eye condition and I have to use daily and nightly industrial strength viscal tears and ointments etc. I have also have developed shortness of breath and I feel my breathing is restricted. There seems to be an invisible elastic band between my lungs and the top of my stomach. Dr's have put it down to stress but both of these conditions have been around for some time (and during times of happiness and sadness) and apart from embarking on a wheat and diary free diet, which I am trying now, I have a sneaking suspicion it might have something to with the Lans’ although Dr’s at the hospital simply dismiss this when I bring it up.

Does anyone else have these side effects at all or is it, as my Dr suggests, something else?

Look forward to hearing from you all.

Yb

I had something similar. I had an ulcer last year and was prescribed Lansoprazole. I started getting shortness of breath, mostly in the evenings. It felt as if I was breathing very cold air, if that makes sense.

I mentioned it to my doctor but she put it down to hayfever, although I have had hayfever for years but never suffered from shortness of breath. I stopped the lansoprazole, and the problem stopped.

I've had to recently start it again after a number of months, it'll be interesting to see if the breathing issue starts again.

I read the possible side effects of the tablets the other day and shortness of breath is one of them. Are you taking Zoton or the generics?

I have been taking Lansoprazole for Reflux and I also experience shortness of Breath. I have monitored the situation and I have found that if I stop taking the capsuls I don not suffer shortness of Breath. Also I have had an increased Pulse rate.

I have visited my Doctors who have looked up the side affects and could not find shortness of Breath listed. However he has decided to listen to the Patient and at the moment he has changed my Tablets and will monitor. I have monitored the situation for the past 6 months and it will be interesting to see if my Pulse rate reduces. I have also reverted to Herbal treatment and Raw Honey is recommended . I have had some good results has although I have Heartburn my food sometimes will get stuck

I was taking the generic Lansoprazole ie the tablets that are called Lansoprazole by name and had a few side effects including anxiety, sleeplesness, tight chest and also they did not really help. I have since been given Zoton (a different brand of Lansoprazole) and feel much better.

My chest is still a little bit tight (like the elastic band you describe), but not as bad as it was. I come off the tablets after 2 or 3 months though and follow a really boring diet which doesn't allow for much variety which reduces my need to take the tablet continuously.

I have just been prescribed Lansoprazole for heartburn, but after reading the forum I am having second thoughts about using them.
