Stopped medication how long should side effects take to disappear?

Hello

I’ve been on 30mg of  Lansaprozole daily for last 6 weeks to treat Duodenal Ulcer.I was fine until I started taking them but after about 4 days I had chest and muscle pains which gladly went about a week later. However about 3 weeks ago I developed a pain in my lower right abdomen which included nausea, mild diarrhoea/constipation sometimes going to loo 5 or 6 times in morning this sometimes included bright red blood on toilet paper hopefully being due to the amount of toilet visits.I’m thinking all these problems are due to the medication(I hope I’m correct)

Ive also noticed a pain in right lower back and groin don’t know if they are connected?Course of medication finished 3 days ago these problems still persist and if they are a side effect of Lans has anyone got an idea how long before they go away ?

    alan16283,

I too have similar symptoms but in different locations (back, ribs, abdomen, neck).  Most of my symptoms are characterized by episodes of muscle stiffness which makes breathing a little labored at times and tingling of extremities (especially in feet).  I was taking lansoprazole for about 5 years at the advice of my doctor.  It took about 5 years for me to notice these symptoms.  I quit taking this about 2 years ago.  My symptoms have gotten a little better but I figure it may be a long road back from years and years of exposure to PPIs.  It's frustrating because there are days where I feel good and other days where I just feel bad.  I really have no proof that exposure to PPIs are causing these symptoms but there is nothing else remarkable about my health.  The PPIs are the only thing that I have taken chronically.  I hope your shorter exposure results in a quick recovery.  Good luck!

Many thanks for replying to me. It’s always a worry when new symptoms appear during a course of medication you hope it’s just one of the side effects (A lot of the common side effects listed I seemed to have had over the past six weeks) but you worry that something sinister has appeared that has nothing to do with the medication although it is reassuring to know that someone else has had similar symptoms to mine which seems down to the meds. As I said I was great before I started taking Lans my thoughts are to rush to the docs in morning but I’ll think I will hold back a while to see if things improve given time. Many thanks once again for taking the time to reply and I wish you well for the future. Regards Alan

I was on thus drug and 60 mg per day. I have needle like pains in my liver / gallbladder area and sometimes around my lower back. Randomly pains occur all over my body. Sharp needle like pain and I definitely related them to this drug. I have been off them for nine weeks and no improvement. I await a gallbladder scan.
