Stopping Lansoprazole....

Hi all! I've had tummy problems since I was a kid and have been taking Lansoprazole for years, but the doctors keep telling me there is nothing wrong with me. I recently went back to my Gastro doctor and asked if he could re-do some tests, so he's sent me for another endoscopy (my last one was 4 years ago.) I've had to stop taking Lansoprazole for a week beforehand and I've noticed that my poop is looser and it smells pretty damn awful! Is my body reacting to me stopping the Lansoprazole by flushing out what's left in my body or is there something else going on? I'm suffering with tummy ache because I'm not taking them and I'm bl*ody annoyed because I thought I might be OK without them for once. No such luck. I've tried to get the doctors to tell me why I get tummy ache when there's nothing wrong with me, but they never ever give me a straight answer. I'm beginning to think I'm bonkers and that it's all in my head, but even if it is, I'd like some kind of help to relieve / cure it! Anyway, sorry to go on, but I'm pretty fed up of suffering, as I'm sure you all are. Thanks for listening.

Im 17 years old (so my problems have also started quite early as well) and ive just started having really bad stomach pains and the doctors have put me on lansoprazole. I just wanted to say that i feel very similar too you...i feel like the doctors arnt taking me seriously and surely they should be finding out whats wrong with us first and then putting us on the right drugs instead of guessing whats wrong and prescribing something that [i:cd3102d51a]might[/i:cd3102d51a] help.

im not sure about you, but the pain is terrible. im fixed on the idea that its gallstones but because im so young they wont test me for it even though my symptoms match up exactly. I started to think its in my head as well but theres definately something wrong otherwise it wouldnt hurt! pain is your bodys way of telling you something is wrong and i think your gp (although most are useless) should be doing a lot more tests for you! why should we have to suffer!

and as reguards to you having to stop taking lanzoprazole for a while...perhaps you could ask whether its a type of drug that your body eventually becomes reliant upon? google the drug because lanzoprazole is something called a proton pump and ive got a feeling it might have effects like that.

im not a doctor so i cant help much but i wanted to let you know that i share the same sort of feelings, and there must be something wrong with your stomach...the doctors just need to find it!

I am new to this site and i am shocked by the total disinterest of the GP's in other peoples suffering. Lansoprazole is supposed to alleviate pain but is often very ineffective and also creates another set of symptoms. I cannot believe that the medical profession just leave people to suffer indefinately. This is the whole point of them being there is to alleviate peoples suffering. If they dont want to do that, go and get another job. But we do know that treatment is governed by money and we know who controls that. The government, and i think it is time people made a stand instead of suffering in silence. The NHS is getting worse due to cut backs and bailing banks out, and still alloting themselves massive bonuses with no guilt. How much money is enough for these people. DO NOT SUFFER in silence contact me and we will start by petitioning and go on from there. You must make a stand to change anything.
