Hi there,
I am off prenisolone a month now and feeling good. I was speaking to a client of mine and we were discussing vit b12. Has anyone heard anything about vit b12 deficiency and a link to sarcoidosis? Would love to hear views on it?

Hi polly, It's the first time I have heard anything like that usally B12 deficiency is associated with lack of Dairy, Eggs, Meat and Fish, I know myself Sarcoidosis plays up with the Calcium in one's body it has increased mine has reduced my Iron which has increased my Clorlestrol levels and reduced my Vit D, so I have had to supplement these by tablet form or increase foods or decrease crtain things in my diet, with myself I decreased my caffeine to 1 cup a day as I was over doing it at one stage but I had increased my tea (black) which I found was more worrying then the cups of coffee for black tea was decreasing my Iron content which elevated my Clorlestrol but could be just me as everyone is different with this disease and with Prenisolone including other Steriod treatments over a 6 year period back in the early days in the mid 80's they just threw everything at me which after being on high doses has reduced my Immune System but that's what they knew back then, I would look into this further by asking a Specialist in the field as it could unbalance something else in your system, good luck.

B12 deficiency relates to internal bleeding.
If this is the case then seek medical help

Hi Polly. B12 deficiency is rare if you have a normal healthy diet or use a supplement if you're vegan. It can cause dizziness, breathlessness and visual disturbances. Since these can also be caused by Sarc, it would be a double whammy! Your G P should be able to test for it, however.

Polly, I too have very low B12 and Vit D even after taking 1000 iu prr day of B12y kevels were at 65 My Dr has tested for everything including stomachs ability to absorb B12 My sarcoidosis Dr has talked with other top sarcoidosis doctors and conclusion is all have seen patients with sarcoidosis with low B12 and Vit D i do weekly B12 injections and that has brought my B12 levels up. Low Vit D is anither issue , as taking Bit D supplements daily can cause sarcoidosis patients to have too much calcium in their system which leads to other complications. Google B12 &Vit D deficiency in sarcoidosis patients. Hope this helps
