What is superadded infection

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have just hadthd results of my 2nd X ray oin 6 weeks. It says I have increased interstital lung markings compared to previous chest X rays an currently there is more prominent hazy shadowing in left lhng and right lung base probably representing superadded infection. I have been given a stronger dose of antibiotics, co-amoxiclav 500mg for 10days. This is my 4th lot of antibiotics in 6 weeks. I feel tired and out of breath, my coughing is just as bad. I have been asked to repeat the X ray jn 4 weeks time. Does anyone know what they mean by superadded infection or increased bilateral makings on the lungs. I am worried.

    Hello Hope

Sounds nasty!  I have been diagnosed with IPF and my diagnosos was based on lung function testing (blowing into a machine) including gas transfer measurement and High Res CT scans.  I am surprised you have only had chest Xrays which as I understand it does not show up instertitial abnormalities very well. my coughing was caused by acid reflux and nothing to do with my lungs.

Hello...Sorry to hear your diagnosis.I'm due to have lung function tests 30th Aug 16. Can you tell me what your c t scan showed and are you really breathless? I don't seem to be getting any answers to what's wrong with me.

      Thanks

      Hi Jayne

I think you wil learn a lot from the lung function test. For example if your breathless is caused by blocked tubes or something wrong with the alvioli which are the minute air sacs where the oxygen passes into the blood. Try to get the person who does the test to explain your results which is what I did.  She was very helpful.  My problem is with the alvioli but fortunately it is at a very early stage and I only get breathless when I walk up hill.  I do wish you all the best....keep pressing for a proper diagnosis.  I talked to a very kind and knowledgible person at the British Lung Foundation.

Thanks for the reply. I also only get breathless when walking up stairs etc. I was told by Consultant after a ct scan with dye injected that I had Bronchiolitis, a virus which children and babies have and that I have inflammation of my airways ....this has been going on since May. Surley it would have gone by now if it was a virus. She gave me Symbicort inhaler and arranged lung function tests. I've had to wait a month for the lung function test. ??
