Effect of ALlopurinol in addition to hypothermia for hypoxicischemic Brain Injury on Neurocognitive Outcome
This study is looking at whether a medicine called allopurinol, when given with usual cooling treatment, can help babies who have suffered a specific type of brain injury around birth. Researchers want to see if it improves their development and reduces serious problems by age two.
For: Brain injury termed “hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy” (HIE) as a result of various events during labour and childbirth such as placental abruption, uterine rupture, umbilical cord complications, etc.)
