Who may be eligible?
To join this study, you need to be an adult, aged 18 or older. We are looking for two main groups of people: those who already have a swelling (aneurysm) in their descending thoracic aorta, or those who have had a procedure for it, and a control group who have healthy descending thoracic aortas but may have other blood vessel conditions.
It's important that you've already had a CT scan of your chest aorta as part of your regular medical care. You also need to be able to lie flat for the ultrasound scan and be willing to give your permission to take part. Unfortunately, we can't include people who are under 18, pregnant, or have certain health issues like severe curving of the spine, previous chest surgery, or a very short life expectancy. Also, if you can't come to appointments or have certain rare reasons why an ultrasound might not be suitable, you wouldn't be able to join.

What does participation involve?
If you decide to take part, you won't receive any new treatments or medications. You'll continue to get your usual medical care exactly as you would normally. The only extra step is an additional ultrasound scan of your chest. This scan is quick and painless, and you'll lie down for it. We will then compare the measurements from this ultrasound with the results from the CT scans you've already had as part of your standard care. The total duration of your participation will involve attending this one extra ultrasound appointment.
