Vision Baby : The Measurement of Vital Signs in Neonates by Lifelight® Software in Comparison to the Standard of Care
This study is looking at a new piece of computer software, called Lifelight®, that could measure a baby's vital signs (like heart rate, breathing, and oxygen levels) just by watching them with a video camera. We want to see if this video method works as well as the standard equipment currently used in hospitals, which involves wires and sensors. We'll be collecting video footage of babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) while their vital signs are also being measured by the usual hospital monitors. The aim is to make monitoring babies less intrusive and more comfortable in the future. The study involves 256 babies and their parents or guardians will be asked to fill out questionnaires.

Who may be eligible?
This study is designed for very young babies.
Your baby might be able to take part if they are currently being cared for in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), even if they later move to another ward in the hospital.
However, your baby won't be able to join the study if they are receiving palliative care, which is comfort care for serious illnesses.

What does participation involve?
If your baby takes part in this study, here's what would happen:
For a short period, we will record a video of your baby's face and part of their chest. This will happen about four times every hour (every 15 minutes) using a tablet placed above their cot. Each recording will last up to 120 seconds (2 minutes). We might try up to three times to get a good recording.
During these recordings, your baby will also continue to be monitored by the usual hospital equipment (wires and sticky pads) to measure their heart rate, breathing, oxygen levels, blood pressure, and temperature. This is so we can compare the new video method with the standard hospital care. The video app won't show any readings to you or the hospital staff at the time. Afterwards, the video will be analysed to help improve the software.
As a parent or guardian, you might also be asked to fill out a questionnaire after these measurements are taken, to share your experience and thoughts.
