Anyone has Acid Reflux/dizziness/ETD????

Hi everyone, I am new here.... I have been suffering with bad acid reflux for years.... last September I started to feel dizzy.... my ears are clogged and the dizziness is hard to explain. Nothing spins it's just a feeling like my ears and eyes are not in sync for like a micro second..... I feel this way when I am walking, turning head, etc..... My allergist says is the reflux getting into my ears..... I also have neck herniation.... not sure if it could be related to that too...... My ears are always clogged, so I was wondering if any of you suffer from acid reflux / silence reflux causing the ETD?????? If so, how did you fix it? I am in my wits ends... this has been going on since September of last year and I can't take it any longer 😦

i am still struggling with this problem. yes but the dizziness is very less or it is almost negligible sometimes, but ear fullness is still issue. i have taken homeopathic medicines. look for video " 20 seconds miracle technique for eustachian tubes" on youtube by motivationaldoc. look for netipot use for sinus rinse too.

    Hi Gabriela

I've been suffering with the same symptoms for 3+ years, but I'm doing a lot better now. Here's what's helped me:

    1. You have to address the cause: silent reflux/acid reflux. I cut out coffee, alcohol, large meals (I eat 4-5 times a day, smaller portions) and tight clothes. I also try not to eat 2-3 hours before going to bed.

2.. I also suffer from seasonal allergies, so I use the NeilMed Sinus Rinse bottle 1-2 times a week with saline solution (instructions are in the box). This cleans out the sinuses and helps with the eustachian tubes too. If you have any throat mucus issues, you can always gargle with the salty water solution too. As an alternative, you can start with the Neti Pot, which is the same idea but not as high pressure, it just uses gravity instead of you pressing the solution up your nose.

    2. I started exercising (I'm sure you don't want to hear this Lol) I workout at least 3 times a week, mostly weight training like squats, bench pressing, pull ups etc with some light cardio. I try to keep a high heart rate for most of the workout, I do a lot of super-sets and try not to sit around too much in the gym. This has also helped my sinuses a lot - even though I've always been skinny.

Hope this helps. I'm sure you already know all the typical remedies for reflux, but LPR is different from the regular GERD. For example I never het heartburn, but if I don't eat for 3-4 hours, I start feeling the tightening in my throat and pressure in my ears. In some cases, you might have to get on medicine, such as Nexium or Prilosec.

Keep us posted on your journey to recovery. There's always a solution, you just have to find what works for YOU 😃

Thanks so much for replying... were you getting the dizziness as well.... this all started thinking back when I stopped nexium.... I take zantac now but it doesn't work as well.

No, I never got dizziness. My symptoms were mostly just pressure in my ears along with the annoying crackling sensation and mucus production. Flare ups were usually within 15-30 minutes after eating.

For any searchers finding this, this is a great answer. I'd recommend 'The Acid Watcher Diet' by Dr. Aziz, get a (good) sleep wedge and only sleeping on your left hand side.

I can't edit the above. By 'great answer', I mean Laszlo4520's answer to which my additions are responses.

hi, I'm fairly new to this. I had a double ear infection after a series of colds earlier in the year. I got blocked ears and a lot of neck tension from and despite the infection going from a week of antibiotics the blocked feelings and neck problems never went. interestingly I also have GERD or more precisely LPR because I get less heart burn and more sore throat, hoarse voice and higher up symptoms. my LPR symptoms have also flared up at the same time but initially I thought that was from the stress of feeling this rubbish. maybe it was actually the LPR/GERD that caused the ear problems. x

Yep, in the same boat. LPR and clogged ears/ETD issues. The FAST Track diet by Dr. Norm Robillard has helped with all my LPR/GERD symptoms a lot (5 months already) but still have a clogged left ear mostly in the morning and sometimes all day long.

Hi Gabriella. Has a doctor actually said that your ETD has been caused by reflux, or was it just the allergist that thought that was the case ? It could be that there is no relationship between the two at all - that it is just coincidence. If the reflux is causing ETD then you need to treat the cause - not the symptom - ie sort the reflux out. I have just developed ETD - and there is a chance mine has been caused by me not taking my relux meds for a week - but i am not 100% sure, there could be two or three other causes, so I am going to see a specialist.

The allergist said that... I am meeting with the ENT on Monday, let's see what I said.... this is all started when I quit my reflux medication 😦

Hi Gabriella, thats good - the EN+T person should know. I did read that ETD is unlikely to be caused by reflux - unless scarring has taken place in the throat, however given that, like you, with ETD problem started when i stopped my reflux meds, it does seem very likely. But the EN+T person will know all of this. With any luck sorting out your reflux will sort out your ears. Can you not just back on your medication for reflux ? I hope to see an ENT professor in the coming weeks privately in Kent where i live -I will be asking him if there is a definate correlation between ETD and reflux...as I am not 100% sure that there is - anyway I will post his answers on here, and hopefully you can do the same.

    my main Q's are

    1. can reflux cause ETD ?
    2. by reducing or cutting out reflux will it solve ETD ?
    3. Will everything go back to normal now I have returned to taking my reflux meds - and how long will it take to get back to normal ?

hi, just to say-i also have LPR and I'm still on my meds but even on my meds I do still have flare ups for various reasons. I've been under a lot of pressure and my stress levels went through the roof just before this started which also caused a flare up of my reflux at the same time. once that happened these ear problems started so it seems a bit too much of a coincidence given the timing and the fact a few of us have been the same. xx

Hey good questions, I will ask on Monday when I have my appointment and I will report back!

I started taking nexium again yesterday PLUS zantac at night before going to bed. I have been on PPIs for years and I was trying to live without them but it looks like I can't 😦

And the more clogged my ears are the worse the dizziness..... I am so sick of this. Thank you all for listening!
