B12 injections for life?

Posted , 2 users are following.

i was diagnosed about 8 years ago with low B12 levels and put on a 12 week schedule of injections by my GP

This continued for 6 years until the GP checked my B12 levels again on routine blood tests to find it was 500 area and as such stopped the injections saying they were no longer needed.

The last tests showed that the level had dropped to 320 about 9 months ago.

I have recently started to feel ill again with symptoms of deficiency, gastric issues, numbness of extremities, vision blurred, etc all of which i had when originally diagnosed.

I have been on Omeprazole for linger than i can remember and was told that absorption problems were to blame for my original diagnosis.

I have seen comments that once on injections for malabsorption then that should be for life, not until normal levels are achieved.

is this correct?

its my understanding too that you have injections for life. I am approaching 2 years since I was diagnosed and on injections. Still have symptoms of tingling and tightness in my hands and feet, which i could cope with if i didn't feel so low
